2008 bottle (at Kulminator in 2013): Incredibly complex ... where do I begin? Immensely rich with intricate notes of dark-fruit (raisin, fig, prune), chocolate, cooked caramel, brown sugar, and Sugar Daddy candy. Amazingly, it didn’t seem overly sweet, as the alcohol, subtle roast and bitterness balanced it out well. Chewy, milkshake-like texture. After every sip I discovered new flavors, and I didn’t want the beer to end.
2009 vintage bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour dark copper with moderate ecru head and lots of particulate. Nose caramel apple, toffee, raisin, fig, light soy. Bottle bought back in Utrecht. 2012 edition. Pours very dark brown, almost black with frothy beige head. Aroma: Raisen, wet wood, caramel, sugar, roasted malts, fig. Quiet sweet taste: wood, plumme, cherry, light vanilla. Very Very good beer. The only thing that brings this down in my opinion is the aftertaste - I just don’t like it. Reserva 2012. The aroma is malt, caramel, dates, raisin. Pours very dark brown with fully diminishing beige head and excellent lacing. The taste is sweet. The body is medium/full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish lively. Bottle, vintage 2010, courtesy of SinH4, many thanks! Pours dark brown with a medium but short lived foam. Aroma is dark dried fruit, ripe fruit, oak, fig, raisin, candy, soft booze. Body is heavy, quite sweet, but not overwhelming. Lively carbonation carrying the dried fruit and oak flavours over to a warming and boozy palate. Intense, but well balanced and extremely drinkable. 2012 bottle. Pours very dark redish brown almost black with a frothy beige head. Loads of dark fruit, christmas pudding, roasted nuts, oak, banana and a sour vinous hint. Taste has all the above fruits and spices. Really alive at first with big acidity, but all that settles a bit and a rounder maltiness appears along with a much smoother mouthfeel. Reserva 2016. Like cold coffee, pours without head. Unlike the appearance, the taste is right. Overripe plums, raisins, red wine, red fruit. Very long finish with a bit of wood, dry, but still a lot of fruit. Some alcohol comes in as well.
