The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew colleague Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

Dark reddish brown beer, nice lacing once again. Lovely sweet, complex and vinous aroma, the alcohol is more present here than in the original but it smells like heaven itself. So malty, spicy, fruity, now with some nice wooden notes mixed in rather than distracting the whole like in Pannepot Grand reserva. So soft yet very warming, you can feel the alcohol mostly when it has already gone down your throat. Superb beer, at least as good as the regular pannepot which makes it a perfect beer or perfect beer plus for me. Got to get more of this, If I had to drink only one beer for the rest of my life it would be this one. Still gay for Pannepot, have to five the bastard and shut up now before someone gets annoyed with me.

Bottle. Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma is caramel, raisins, figs, chocolate, schnapspraline, red apples. Taste is caramel, apples, woody, raisins, tannic finish. Silky mouthfeel with a rather high carbonation. Lovely! The aroma took a couple of minutes to open up, at first it was very strawy and dusty.

330ml bottle (2010). Pours a clear deep amber, off-white head. Aroma is strong dried fruit, marmalade, light spice, sweet malt. Taste is sticky sweet with vinous notes, cassonade, soft oak with warming alcohol. Nice winter warmer.

2012 Reserva 33cl bottle in glass A - relatively clear dark brown amber with nice fast falling beige head A - complex caramel vanilla malt sweet malty, prunes T - heavy sweet, no bitter, maybe very mild sour P - complex full body, smooth silky texture, moderate carbonation, oak ageing really gives wine like character O - great beer love the original better but very good drink

Cloudy dark brown pour. Aroma of dried fruits, chocolate, coffee notes, red wine, port/sherry, oak, licorice, alcohol, cookie, balsamic vinegar. Medium sweet, mildly bitter and soft sour linger. Medium to full body with a soft Co2. Great slow winter sipper. It snowed today, inside it's warm, what more can a man ask for.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Deep brown, clear ruby highlights, dark orange head with poor retention. The primary smell is stale wine barrel, mold. The there's sugared dark fruit. Taste: dark sugars with a winy note and a hint of sweet chocolate. A little heartburn, leaving something acetic on the back end. A hint of mold in the aftertaste. Quite easy drinking for the abv. Ok, must be a bad bottle.

2012 vintage. Pours deep brown with a finger of thick tan head. Aroma of raisins, dried fruit, spices, brown sugar, light booze. Taste is mild tart up front, followed by a rich fruit sweetness, and then finally a malty and mildly boozy finish. Medium bodied, might be a tad lighter with age, smooth, with average carbonation.

Shared 33cl bottle. 2012 edition. Pours dark brown with a fizzy, short-lived beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, malt, brown sugar. Taste is dark fruits, raisin, oak, red wine, alcohol. Good, but I prefer the standard Pannepot to this.

Aroma: sweet, malty, spicy; Appearance: black/brown with fizzy head that dissipated quickly; Taste: follows nose but with some off notes - heavily oaky with tannin; think the bottle may have been compromised; Palate: heavy body with long, sweet finish; Overall: disappointing; think it could have been better.
