Originally brewed in the early 19th century for export from Britain to the imperial court of Russias Catherine the Great, imperial stouts are characterized by their dark color & full body. This style features a rich, malty sweetness coupled with aggressive hopping (especially in American interpretations). Notes of dried fruit as well as roasted malt flavors are typically present.

Aged to perfection. Pours a dark espresso brown with frothy dark tan head that dissipates to a thin layer. Aroma is chocolate, a tiny hint of bourbon, faint notes of dried cherry, almonds and roasted malt. Flavor is a mix of raisin, cacao and a hint of sweet dried fruit balanced by roasted malts and rich grainy bread flavor. Body is creamy with light to medium carbonation. Very balanced.

appearance: just shy of jet, with a dense, creamy dark tan head; silky-looking and viscous. aroma: molasses, dark chocolate, black licorice, roasty coffee and chicory. taste: roasty, full of silky dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, oak, molasses. finish: warm, dry finish; full, smooth palate. notes: Wow, what a beer. Tremendous. Alcohol very well-hidden, flavors balanced and complimentary, and absolutely delicious. Draft of the 2011 vintage as a special at World of Beer in Rockville, Maryland for Trivia Night (3rd place!).

Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, pine, dark fruit, chocolate, molasses, mocha, roasted malts, coffee and hops.

Opaque dark brown/black beer with medium yeast and with a slight/medium brown/dark brown head.

Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, pine, dark fruit, chocolate, molasses and mocha; ends slightly/medium bitter and dry with roasted malts, coffee and hops.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Has a lot of hops, and thus hoppy flavours, for an Imperial Stout. Great beer with a lot of different flavours. Thick texture and it goes on and on.

Pitch black appearance with a minimal tan head. The aroma contains coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, and some dark fruit. The flavor is rather bitter with more coffee, dark chocolate and some raisins showing up to the party. This is on the dry bitter end of Impy Stouts if thats what you like. Overall very nice and a steal at $5 a bomber!

Black color with a tan head, medium retention with nice lacework. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, black ripe fruit, coffee with liquor hints. Flavor is slightly sweet, roasted malts notes, coffee taste with notes of ripe prunes. Light bitterness in the final; dense and creamy on palate with a roasty mouthfeel.

bottle - Pours black with a dark tan head. It has a rich aroma of dark roast malt, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is intense with roast malt, coffee, and chocolate again. Its well loaded with hops to balance all that sweet malt and has a roasty, bitter finish. Full bodied. It strikes me as a pretty by-the-book imperial stout and theres nothing wrong with that. Its very well executed.

Black as the deepest dungeon with a fine beige head on top. Good intensity in the aroma. Full body and soft carbonation level. Not to sweet. Ok bitterness to back it up. Rich and complex flavor. Chocolate, espresso, some fruity notes and moderate roast. Well masked alcohol.

66 cl bottle bought at La Tienda de la Cerveza, Madrid. Served in red wine glass. Pours pitch black, bright and clean, with a dense, tight chocolatey brown head (that wanes off surprisingly fast). Intense aroma is espresso, dark chocolate, bitter herbs. Taste is flavourful, strong, creamy. Very bitter long-lasting finish. Quite a nice stout.
