4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 21, 2011 Poured black with lasting, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Was very full-bodied, thick and creamy. The first taste to greet you is the roasted malts and delicious oats. These are backed up by notes of chocolate, caramel and coffee. The bitterness comes out in the finish, which is nicely bitter but not in hop head country. Very smooth and lasting finish. A little dry. This beer was well-balanced, full-bodied, smooth and very, very tasty. In fact, it could very well be the best beer I’ve ever had!
Bottle @home. Pours almost black tan/beige head. Nose is chocolate, slightly nutty, slightly fruity, slight licorice. Taste is more of the same, a great wee beer with a great bitter finish. aleanguz91 (14) - Grignasco (NO), ITALY - AUG 17, 2017
Bevuta il 13/08/2017 @MelrosePlace in Romagnano Sesia (NO). Colore nero, schiuma color nocciola poco persistente che si affievolisce fino a rimanere una patina color cappuccino . Birra beverina, non troppo gassata. In bocca predomina il cioccolato con note di caffè. Abbastanza dissetante. Retrogusto leggermente amaro e nel contempo appena acidulo. alvaro78 (560) - Sevilla, SPAIN - AUG 14, 2017
Aromas a cacao y tostados
Buen aspecto espuma fina pero persistente
En boca cuerpo bajo-medio con toques de cacao y torrefacto. Sedosa

Dark brown pour with a thick tan head, fades but still lasts as a thin layer and good lacing. Bready, roasty, coffee and a bit of liquorice on the nose. Taste is similar, liquorice is a bit more noticeable than in the aroma, creamy mouthfeel. AleRider78 (1333) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 30, 2017
Pours a thick foamy, light beige head and has a dark brown appearance. Fairly weak lacing. Light bready and toasty malt aromas with the oatmeal coming through in the finish. Even a bit of vanilla. Mild toasty, nutty flavours with hints of caramel, coffee, very light chocolate notes. Oatmeal flavour is pretty noticeable but still weak. Creamy and chalky mouthfeel. Pretty average carbonation. Not too bad. Too much of a watery mouthfeel. Was expecting something with more substance and/or thickness.

Bottle 355ml. Deep brown to black pour with well-formed beige head. The nose is well united esters, roasted malts, cream, dried fruit, coffee beans. Complex. Light body. More roast on tongue. Medium dry. The same complexity. Light bitterness. A perfect session stout. midovark (969) - Balassagyarmat, HUNGARY - JUL 10, 2017
0.355 l bottle from Beerlovers, shared at home. Pours black with no head. Coffee, roasted malts and liquorice in aroma. In taste the same notes appeat accompanied with creamy mouthfeel and surprisngly light body. Not bad at all, but nothing outstanding either. Perpignan73 (42) - Merseyside, ENGLAND - JUL 1, 2017
Close to beer perfection. Its just delicious from beginning to end. Creamy, chocolate, roasty, milk, fruit, liquorice sweetness but not overly. Another belter from Sam Smiths. BeardedAvenger (839) - Addlestone, Surrey, ENGLAND - JUN 11, 2017
Bottle from Bury Lane Farm Shop, Herts. Coffee with sugar and cream aroma. Some liquorice in the tail. Glossy black. Thick beige head. Medium bitter. Coffee (no sugar), liquorice, roast. Gains sweetness in the finish, tart berries. Underlying creamyness. Medium bodied. Watered down oil. Lively carbonation, potentially overly so. Low key but astringent finish. Decent enough but the amount of carbonation and astringent part mar it for me. Not as good as I remembered.
