Oud Beersel Kriek Lambic from Brouwerij Oud Beersel is a classic among Belgian beers. Created by adding whole fresh cherries to young lambic, which provides both seasoning and sparks another fermentation resulting in a product of great complexity. It has the acidity of champagne, the bouquet and delicate flavor of cherries, and balance of almondy dryness. Oud Beersel Kriek is the missing link between beer and wine.

DISCLAIMER: This is a special export version, initially made by Frank Boon, but it is continued by the new owners of Oud Beersel. It is different as it is pasteurised and some sugar was added, this to preserve the fruit flavour which normally disappear after 6 months. So if you had a Kriek from Oud Beersel, please check whether you had the "Oude Kriek" variant or the this version for export only.

   AROMA 9/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 9/10   PALATE 5/5   OVERALL 19/20
DewBrewer (294) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 1, 2011
37.5cL bottle from 2002. Orange/red color and more carbonation than expected. Amazing aroma of grapefruit and cherry. Simply intense. Flavor is more sour than a bottle drunk about 2 years ago. The cherry still comes through. Wow, this has matured into something really special.

islay (3004) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 13, 2016
12.7 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-11-16. “25.04.2016,” presumably a bottled on date. Lovely, floral, fruity smell of cherry yogurt. Mineral smell. Cherry scent is quite strong. Some Band-Aid and dust in aroma. Pours a hazy, reddish maroon with a moderate amount of light pink to rose head. Good pink lacing. Excellent and highly attractive appearance. Heavy cherry taste. Too fruity in fact; maraschino cherry. Fresh cherry tartness does emerge on multiple sips. Light body. Not much liveliness. Subpar palate effects. I’d prefer less cherry and more tartness. Hopefully this will improve with age.

Tasting at Matt’s, corked bottle
Dark purple color. Cherry drink, moderately drink, moderate alcohol, with a Cabernet touch.

fiery1 (1665) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 27, 2016
375ml bottle, pours a hazy red colour. Nose is cherry and maybe some butter. Flavour is sweet cherries, touch of tartness.

Ferris (16521) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 27, 2016
Bottle - Sweet cherry notes. Deep purple with no head. Sweet cherry and a decent finish. A bit simple but nice.

mcberko (18979) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 27, 2016
375mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark burgundy with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out sugary cherries and light funk. Flavour is very sweet, with sugary cherries drowning out everything else. No funk or depth. It’s a pleasant sweet fruit beer, but nothing else.

lupulist (354) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 27, 2016
Pours a deep ruby colour with a thin head. Aroma of cherry candy or cherry cough syrup. Tastes equally sweet, with very little carbonation. Interesting flavours and texture, too sweet for me.

Oakes (18851) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 27, 2016
Deep red, purply colour. Not much head. The aroma is cherry, and the palate is this sweet, cherry character. Sort of heavy body. And quite candyish.Well, it ends up as passable.

badhack (566) - San Francisco, California, USA - SEP 26, 2016
Pours a raspberry red with a bubbly pink head. Wood, cherry, berry. Malt, bread, baking spice. Tart finish, not overwhelming.

vyvvy (6734) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 20, 2016
It pours deep purple with a small pink head. The aroma has rich pie filling cherry, mild tartness (way more sweet) and vanilla. It has a medium crisp body with some smoothness too and light carbonation. The taste has a lot of cherries, light spice, hint of sourness and is pretty refreshing. Nice

NeuroPliny (247) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 22, 2016
Pours clear red with a quickly fading pink head. Aroma is cherry and Cabernet. Flavour is sweet and tart like a cherry rhubarb pie.
