COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editor’s Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences separates the beers. It’s essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Thanks to TheHopster. Bottle poured into Chimay glass. Inky black with mocha head, notes of cherry, bourbon, smoke, tobacco, bacon, oily palate alcohol pretty well hidden for a 15% brew, well done! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a perfect beer. It has a velvety chocolate yummy texture that is hard to describe let alone analyze with each sip. The beer is so complex and so appealing as a delicacy. It is midnight black in with it soupy fitness it absolutely appeals to me in my palate. It is rich and robust, with just the right amount of warmth.

Free sample from bottle at Ghost Whale. 2015 vintage. Jet black with a small dirty tan head. Aroma is a big chocolate and molasses base with coffee, coconut and bourbon. Taste is really complex with lots of chocolate, molasses then the bourbon kicks in with a mellow boozy zing then more chocolate and a little coconut and coffee. Really thick and viscous. Lovely stuff.

On tap at Dutch Trading Company. Pours black motor oil with minimal beige head. Nose is heavy bourbon, molasses and dark fruit. Taste is fucking sensational. Layers of dark chocolate, balsamic vinegar, vanilla and dark fruits. Really well balanced. I feel privileged to be consuming this beer in Australia. Yours sincerely, Jonnyguns. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I don't know if this is the best Imperial Stout I've had but it's up there. Aromas bursting with smoke, dark fruit, molasses, cocoa and bourbon. Pours black with a big frothy tan head that leaves a lot of lacing. Complex flavors of wood, smoke, dark fruit, vanilla. The high ABV provides a nice warmth. Mild bitterness at the end. Low carbonation with an oily body. A very expensive beer but it lives up to the hype

2014. W aromacie sporo kawy, piękna beczka. W smaku sporo alkoholu. Zaznaczony bourbon. Sporo kawy, gorzka czekolada. Generalnie tej wersji dałbym tak 4-4.1. 2015. Ale super jest to piwo. W aromacie praliny czekoladowe, kawa, wanilia, kokos. W smaku cudne praliny, walilia, kokosik. Jest gładkie, wyklejające. Brak alko w smaku. Super/10. Zasługuje na jakieś 4.7 w mojej skali RB. 2016. W zapachu coś niepokojącego. W smaku chyba nawet lepsze niż wersja 2015. Jeszcze gładsze. Pyszne.

2012 edition- Smokey roasty, smooth. This basically describes the beer. Oak and Worcestershire sauce with wood, cherries, banana, coffee and blackcurrant with a hint of smoked meat. Vanilla and leather elements as well on the nose. The taste is of strong whisky, roasted malt and pomegranate. The potential on this is amazing to see what happens to it.
