This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War IIís finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukovís Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukovís Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2012 Bottle. Pours a thick dark black with an espresso colored head. Aroma is dark cherries, espresso, black licorice, roasted malts, burnt sugar and hints of alcohol. Taste is dark chocolate and coffee. Getting hints of licorice and dark cherries and roasted/smoked malts. On the palate the beer provides a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness, lingering roasted coffee at the end. Nice carbonation, definitely not syrupy at all. Impressive beer!

Bottle at Jezís Bday. Fucking good looking beer. The mouth feel was what stood out most for me in this. Thick and oily almost enveloping the mouth and super creamy with that bitter bite on the finish which I really enjoy. This isnít a crazy Imperial Stout by any means but what Cigar City have done here is just nail this style all round with balance and depth. Great beer

Deep opaque black with a very small off white head. Aroma is strong semi dark chocolate and some espresso, slightly boozy. Chocolate milk flavor with a very gentle bitter and espresso line aftertaste. Not cloying at all and alcohol incredibly masked. Well done

Bottle (2014 vintage) shared at Himmeriget, Copenhagen - black coloured pour with thin tan head. Sweet and roasted malty with decadent chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, treacle, some hoppy backing, dark dried fruit shred, rich opulent sweet into the close.

(Cigar City Marshal Zhukovís Imperial Stout) Bottle 750m at home, served into a snifter. Totally black coloured beer with a thick as oil pour. One full finger of thick, creamy, dark brown head on top, with great retention. Aroma of milky chocolate, mocha, toasted malts. Taste is more complex, again chocolate, coffee, liquorice now, roasted malts, toffee, dark fruits, coal on the finish. Full, thick body, soft carbonation, very sticky palate. Nice one.

Draft Third of a Pint at Route CBC Festival at Craft Beer Co, Clapham, London in Oct 2015 - Pitch Black in colour. Dark tan head. Very Malty; dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, liquorice and smoke notes. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins, dates, citrus notes. Rich, thick, tarry and a bit oily. Initially sweet roast chocolate and coffee malty and fruity becoming increasingly bitter in the finish. Enjoyed this. Good Impy Stout! (2015-10-03)

Thanks Matt for sharing the bottle! Poured into a taster showing pitch black with no head or lacing. The nose shows light caramel and toffee malts. The palate is light bodied and lightly carbonated. Lightly tart with flavors of light bourbon with hints of soy sauce. Smoky with a toaster bitterness on the finish.
