4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from South Bay. Let this one warm up. Poured jet black with an impressive thick, creamy tan head. Sticky lacing. Heavy chocolate and roasted malt nose. Smoke, leather, oak, some bourbon, and oats as well. Velvety smooth mouthfeel with light carbonation. Love how it coats your mouth. Bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt hits you first. More sweet than bitter, but held in check. Rich coffee flavor (without the acidity), anise, caramel, and creamy milk-chocolate flavors come through. Hints of bourbon and an earthy smokiness pop occasionally. No soy sauce or wooden flavors, just a thick, lovely stout. The alcohol is well masked, but gives a pleasant warmth. Please brew more of this.

Quite excellent in nearly every way! I could drink this one regularly, no problem at all. It is a beautiful glass of stout and the high ABV is unrecognizable unless one sees it noted on the bottle...very smooth.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Corked bottle from Steamworks Liquor Store, Vancouver; vintage 2014, batch I14297-2, bb 10-2016, 2 years old
Pitch black color, brownish creamy head. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate and coffee, in harmony. As I get rid of some carbonation and it gets warmer, the body gets stronger; very good dark chocolate flavor, with roasted nuts and a roasted malt component that doesn’t overwhelm the others.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
APPEARANCE- super black, light head.
NOSE- raspberries! Surprisingly fruity for only being aged in whiskey barrels.
FLAVOR- super roasty. Delicious. Most of the sip tastes like an amazing stout, sans whiskey. Slight whiskey burn at the end of the sip.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cellared 2015 bottle with a Sept. 2017 BB date stamp; opened September 2016. Served in a Belgian snifter.
Appearance: essentially black and opaque body with a semi-durable light tan head.
Aroma: whisky and whisky barrels; black bread; alcohol; dark dried fruits; hints of vanilla.
Flavor: bourbon and oak; molasses; less dark dried fruits and more chocolate than in the nose. Hints of vanilla, brown sugar and black bread. Lightly sweet, overall.
Mouthfeel: very full, relatively thick body with alcohol warmth extending from the tongue downwards.
Overall: quite nice but likely to improve with further aging.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A "one of a kind" when it comes to Imperial Stouts. I’m having troubles pinpointing exactly why that is, but I think a lot has to do with different types of barrel aging. I sense a lot of bourbon in this, and it makes it a really smooth drink. Sweet, with a slightly bitter, warming finish. Well balanced, not pitch black with heavy roasted malt and chocolate that you often find in this style of ale. Medium-low carbonation makes the palate really nice as well. Complex and awesome!

750ml bottle from Systembolaget, vintage 2014. Black with a medium size lasting tan head, good lacing. Vinous aroma with oak barrels, dark rum and bourbon also fruity sweet notes, plum, cherry, vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Creamy, sweet and chewy mouthfeel, mild carbonated. Sweet taste, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, honey, marshmallows and a lot of muscavado sugar. Bourbon, vinous and fruity taste also, figs, prune, plums and oats for sure. The bourbon taste is mild but present all the time, appears more in the finish along with the oak and woody taste. Too much on the sweet side, still complex with a great long pleasant warming finish.
