COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Stout brewed with Chocolate and Coffee, aged in Maple Syrup-Bourbon Barrels.

CBS was born when we stumbled upon some bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup. We opted to put the same base beer as KBS, an imperialized version of Breakfast Stout, in the maple barrels and, after one taste, we knew we had something special. Rich maple syrup, roasted coffee and velvety chocolate meld together in what can only be described as a transcendental drinking experience.

(bottle - 750 ml) Dark black pour with a thick tan head. Big coffee and roasted malt aroma with very light maple. Still has that rich coffee and chocolate nose. The flavor has a ton of the maple coming in at the end of the roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes. Blends amazingly well and really leaves a nice and sweet aftertaste. So glad I finally got to try it.

2017 bottle. Pours black with no head, just a tan ring. Lovely melded aroma of coffee, chocolate, and bourbon, just a hint of maple. Similar notes in the flavour, rich burnt malts, dark bitter chocolate, bourbon sweet. Maple doesn’t leap out but adds another layer of sweetness. The KBS base dries out the mouth well, countering this. The ride over the palate is velvety smooth, plenty of throat warmth. Overall a great beer, but it’s taken some of the edge off KBS which I prefer.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2018 Bottle at home sourced from Beer Hawk. Pours jet black with a dirty tan head that steadily dissipates. It's a good looking beer. Aroma is coffee with maple syrup sweetness, chocolate and a little marshmallow. Taste is a big sweet coffee hit with a boozy finish that takes a little off the sweetness. As it warms up the sweetness gets less and the boozy bourbon takes prominence without overpowering everything else. Quite a thick beer. It's really good stuff. Definitely one to chug on a cold winter evening.

@ BCBF 2017. Malt in aroma, from the smell you wouldn't expect the sweet taste. Sweet, chocolaty, molasses and maple syrup. Not huge on the maple. So very nice balanced. Some coffee in aftertaste.

On tap at Akkurat. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, light bourbon, coffee and maple syrup. The same in the taste. Really sweet but still balanced and smooth to drink. The body was full and the finish long with well hidden alcohol.

Aroma: Balanced aroma of syrup, bourbon barrels, wood and coffee. Appearance: Yeah, looks good. Taste: Quite sweet, balanced, soft, light bitterness. Palate: High body, sweet finish, low carb.

This rating is a mix between batch 1 and 2. I remember b1 being one of the best stouts I had ever had at the time. B2 falls short but how could it ever live up to expectations..? Nose: soft roast, dark chocolate, light maple, KBS like bourbon barrel - oaky and spicy. B2 has a green pepper thing whereas B1 had more coffee beans, maple and even coconut. B1ftw. Taste: mellow roast, chocolate again, light maple, very light barrel character. Medium mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Recall b1 being a tad thicker and bigger on the maple. Do not recollect any green pepper on the palate either. B2 has green pepper. So... B1 anno 2012 when I had it last ~ 4.5 B2 2018 still a nice beer ~ 4.1 Got to go with the 4.3 score then.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2018 Tap på Mikkellerbar Aarhus. Dybsort med brunt skum. Tyktflydende. Vidunderlig aroma af ahornsirup og kaffe. Behagelig og dog kompleks i munden. Flot balance mellem sødme og bitterhed. Fuld krop. Tydeligt fadpræg. Lang eftersmag.

Even up here in the cold, dark north we’ve heard rumors about the famed CBS from Founders. So you could imagine our great joy when we found out the sacred beverage was coming to our neighbourhood! And it did not disappoint: a distinctive taste of dark roasted coffee, a refreshing maple sweetness at the end and the bridge between them is the perfectly rounded taste of chocolate! On tap at Akkurat, Stockholm. Pours black with a moderate foamy and creamy mocha head. Aromas of rich dark chocolate, maple syrup, bourbon, roasted malt, barrel character, caramel, burnt sugar, slight vanilla. Taste is very similar to KBS: caramel, bourbon, roasted malt, vanilla, barrel notes but with an added dimension of maple syrup and slight burnt sugar. Not too much, just an added bonus. Mouthfeel is quite thick and creamy with low carbonation. Delicious.
