Bottle from trevor211 - thanks a ton. I wanted to wait, but this one kept calling my name (and I have another bottle sourced it looks like) so screw it. This one has a beautiful brownish, murky pour - very reminiscent of Adam. Aroma is a really nice mix of oak, bourbon, wine, apple, smoke, chocolate and so much else - unreal complexity in the nose alone! Flavor has a good bit of oak/wet wood with the bourbon being slightly more noticeable than the Apple Brandy. Smokiness is fantastic here with just enough smoky campfire and a good bit of wood and sweetness. Some funky cheese here too Theres candy, a multitude of fruits and earth. Probably the most complex beer Ive sampled. Crazy good mouthfeel with just a hint of alcoholic heat and just enough sweetness and wood. This blows away almost all other Wood-based beers as its so well balanced, and Im gonna guess its only gonna get better. Hypnotizingly awesome, and I dont usually like young HOTDs nearly as much as older ones. A 5 all the damn way.

I didnt rate this? I had it with Bonney back in the day. Ticked 5/5. Right on. Has a bit of haze. No head. Medium brown. The aroma is a bit soy sauce, hazelnut halva, and rice syrup...its a bit complex aroma and these were the first three I pulled out. That eau de vie comes across strong. On the palate, this is soft, sweet, light dates, prune, some fruity dark sugars. The big thing is that it is refined, and smooth.

At hair of the dog. Sweet cherry chocolate aroma. Sweet cherry caramel malt chocolate flavor. Heavy body. Hard to explain but it is amazing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, shared by bergstaden. A murky dark brown beer with a minimal sized, close to just a rim of bubbles, beige head. The aroma is quite oxidized, boozy and sweetish, with leather, raisin, wood, some chocolate and tobacco, even some apple hints and plums. The flavor is quite sweet, with a decent bitterness, quite a bit of warmth, and roasted malts, some bonfire and raisins, leather and tobacco, hints of dried fruits and a touch of dark sugar. Its full bodied and quite warming on the palate, some carbonation left, but its quite flat, and with an everlasting finish. Wow, this is delicious indeed, hope HotD decides to brew it again. 170311

This is one of those beers that Ive chased for a few years and finally got a couple bottles. Massively disappointed. I guess I should have paid more attention to previous reviews around the total flat carbonation of this beer - there is none. Its super sweet, flat, and smoky. If I wanted that taste profile, I would rather have scotch. Honestly, this would be a drain pour for me, if not for the scarcity and work for me to get it. Too bad, I love other HOTD beers and heavy BA strong ales. The flat carbonation absolutely destroyed my enjoyment of this beer.

From bottle thanks to Daawi! Pours a very ugly sediment filled poop brown with a small off white bubbly head. Aroma has cough syrup, light leathery smoke, bourbon, gun powder, cowboy, tobacco, light booze. Taste is sweet, light roasty, toffee, caramel. Light smokey and bitter finish. Full body and a Lie carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to daawi. Pours muddy greasy brown with a small brown bubbly head. Without a doubt one of the ugliest beers Ive ever seen hahaha. Aromas of peat, smoke, caramel, vanilla, dark chocolate, dust, sweet dark fruits, toffee, apples, tannins. Taste is sweet, caramel, vanilla, gunpowder, smoke, tannins, malt, sweet prunes, dates, raisins, apple liqour. Bit of a letdown honestly.

355ml bottle @ the source. 2010 Vintage
Pours a semi-opaque brown with no head. Nose is molasses, fig, caramel, and hints of sweet bourbon. Flavour is just yummy. It goes down so smoothly, while rich in character. Vanilla, chocolate, tobacco and or leather, some dark fruits as well in the back. Great body! 355ml bottle @ the source. 2013 Vintage
Pours a semi-opaque brown with no head. Nose is plum, wood, light apple, swee bourbon. Flavour is just rich, smooth, and delicious... much like the nose.

Big beer. Strong in your face aroma. I was just staining some bar stools Im making, this smells like the stain. Rather smooth for what it is. Smoke. Brown sugar. Oak, and more oak. Boozy. Thanks Douglas for this top 50 beer!
