On tap at Short’s in Iowa City. Arrived in a shaker pint.
Appearance: Arrived as a glass of black (in the bar lighting) liquid, with almost no head - just a thin, patchy cap.
Smell: Sweet caramel and blackstrap, with hints of a lightly roasted coffee and a heavy dose of vanilla extract.
Taste: Actually, somewhat bland. There are flavors of light coffee, chocolate, and vanilla, but they seem rather thin and dispersed. Supporting them is quite possibly the lightest malt backbone I’ve tasted in a porter, almost not present.
Mouthfeel: Quite light and thin, and light on the carbonation as well. This goes down quickly, as it feels as though it has little substance.
Overall: Not exactly a game-changer or favorite for me. I’ll likely not repeat this one. superspak (5787) - Michigan, USA - DEC 3, 2015
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 9/2015. Pours lightly hazy very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light dark fruit, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Okay aromas with solid balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla, and light earthy hop notes; with very poor strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light dark fruit, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, brown bread, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla, and light earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balanced and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is was a pretty solid English porter style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, vanilla, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The aromas were nearly non existent, but the flavors were well done and pleasantly enjoyable. lbianchi66 (417) - FRANCE - DEC 2, 2015
Robe brune avec des reflets cuivrés.
Arômes vanille, biscuit. Goût vanille, céréales, caramel. Final biscuit. Moyennement longue en bouche. Une bonne porter. mjmoen (573) - - OCT 30, 2015
UPDATED: APR 11, 2017 B+. Pours a black color with khaki head. Smooth and flavorful. The vanilla really comes through and compliments the porter nicely. alliance100 (1159) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - OCT 4, 2015
12oz bottle - pours a dark brown with thin off white head . Faint cocoa aroma . More hops present than I would have expected . Meh ... Ok

12 oz. bottle. Pour is dark brown. Quickly diminishing off white head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and some vanilla. Taste was coffee, malty and slightly sweet. Very good. zoucrew102 (1980) - - JUL 12, 2015
Bottle. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and vanilla. Pours deep brown with a thin tan head with decent retention and some lacing. Starts starts with roasted malt flavors but a fairly light body for a porter. Finishes smooth with the sweet chocolate and vanilla characteristics really coming forward for a nice ending. Nice vanilla porter despite the lack of body. Finhead (1782) - OFallon, Illinois, USA - JUN 28, 2015
Dark brown pour with a white head. The aroma has mild vanilla with some malty roast. It has a medium body with average carbonation. The taste is mildly bitter with a dry finish. Austin_Ripper (66) - Iowa, USA - JUN 23, 2015
Pours a very very dark brown, with a white head that dissipates almost instantly. Smells mostly of vanilla with a hint of coffee and even less chocolate. Taste is a creamy vanilla with with a coffee aftertaste. Not my absolute favorite, but definitely worth another buy. JK (6240) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - APR 4, 2015
Brown. Light vanilla and in the aroma. Flavor is surprisingly light, some roasted malt. Light overall. OK.
