Lo scetticismo ha infuocato tutti i conservatori alla notizia del veloce allargamento della cerchia dei birrifici trappisti al di fuori del Belgio. La qualit per non ne ha risentito. In una degustazione alla cieca chiunque sbaglierebbe ma questa quadrupel austriaca, non belga! Si presenta color bruno carico con riflessi rubino. Schiuma sottile ed evanescente. Al naso ciliegia, in bocca prugna, uvetta ed una punta di cioccolato al latte. Luppolo assente Corpo robusto, alcolicit avvolgente e che riscalda il cuore. Carbonatazione media e piacevole. Una birra che sar presto sulla bocca di tutti.

Tomada en casa, comprada en Hipercor. Mucho gas. Espuma beis cremosa, cerrada. Cerveza tostada de 97. Aromas a caramelo y pasas. Esta bien, no deja de ser una ms en su estilo. Salvo el exceso de gas, todo bien.

Bottle 33. Bire brun rouge un peu trouble. La mousse est peu abondante et retombe trs vite. Armes chocolat et miel. Bouche sucre mais pas trop, le candi apparait et le breuvage est relativement doux (avec une lgre amertume) et pas vraiment coeurant. La bire semble trs forte, lalcool est trs prsent en bouche et la trappiste est pour moi moins quilibre que "nos" trappistes belges.

Pours in dark brown clour with ligth intial head. Aroma of dark bread, chocolate. Medium sweet, lightly bitter, lightly sweet. Full body, low carbonization, thick feel, sweet alcohol aftertaste.

Bottle @ juventa beer tasting (with bobson)... small off-white head... dark brown with colored edges... smell coffe yeast some bitter.. tastes about the same as smell coffee is gone though but there is a distinct bitter...

Bottle @ Juventa beer tasting with Thompson. Looks quite dark with some small hints of flakes at the bottom. Smell gives you quite some caramel with a hint of hops and yeast. Taste is strong hints of caramel with coffee and yeasts at the end. Overall, solid beer but within a category that I dont usually fancy.

Een kruidige en fruitige donkere tripel uit Oostenrijk. Het aroma heeft gebrande mout en appelstroop in zich. De smaak wordt gevormd door peer, pruim, rozijn, krent en koffie. Lekker op een koude dag.

Saeglopur (1856) - Vienna Woods, AUSTRIA - JAN 24, 2016
330 ml bottle bb 25.10.14, first batch from 2012 with 9.7% ABV.
Dark brown body, with a medium, creamy, a bit fizzy, beige head.
Aroma of caramel, honey, dried fruits, dark berries, cocoa, some toast, some coffee.
Taste follows this, with some more dry wooden and cocoa powder notes and some alcohol.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes dry, medium roasty, medium sweet, warm, with cocoa, honey, toast, some wood, slight coffee.

What a surprise, this ages damn well! I had the same batch fresh back in 2012, where it was harsher and a bit unbalanced, with a rating around 3.7-3.8. Now its round and complex, with the right balance of sweet, dry and toasty notes. Alcohol provides a pleasant warmth. Unique trappist, that also has elements of a Porter. Very interesting, looking forward to adding a fresh batch rating someday.
