Bottle picked up at the COOP tonight for about $6... Poured into my HotD goblet and received a short lasting tan head with little to no lacing... the brew is hazy dark walnut... Looked like quite a bit of yeast/sediment got into the glass during the pour before I noticed. Nose shows earthy dark maltiness with little in the way of traditional esters or phenols.. mainly just dark malt with a subtle kiss of malt sweetness... does not smell "malty" though if that makes sense. Flavor is dominated by again sorta dry dark malt essence... a bit of sweetness reminds me of a musky mead... dry dusty, sorta nutty dark malt on the finish. Okay carbonation and body.. but both seem a little muddy. Better than average certainly, but I guess I was hoping for more.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Mahogany, slightly translucent with almost no head. Muscovado sugar, stewed prunes, roasted chestnuts, pumpernickel bread, and naked alcohol in the aroma. Taste taste is sweet at first but there's a fruity hop in the finish, along with a touch of astringency. Plum pudding, milk chocolate and a touch of smoke in the aftertaste. Little to no carbonation, oily body. Simply delicious from start to finish.

You can really smell the honey and hops but it's not too sweet. Great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy mahogany. Medium body. Creamy. Medium carbonation. Boozy. Sugary. Notes of coca and rum soaked raisins. A gambit of flavors evolve in the mouth. Not the best Trappist quad of the bunch, but a damn fine beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2017 Foggy brown pour with a fast fading kaki colored head. Nice roasted aroma. Dark chocolate and red forest fruits rising up in my nostrils. Loving it!!! As for the taste, chocolate and espresso are boss. Bread, dark roasted malts and the fruits again. Alcohol is there but doesn't choke ya. The body is medium to rich and almost creamy. Low to medium carbonation, just right. Pleasantly surprised by this one. This can measure up to some of the better trappists out there. Both thumbs up!!!!

bottle from Das Alpenhaus. Dark brown turns ruby when held to the light. Small, tight beige head. Aroma is chocolate, plums, raisins, light savory notes. Taste is a bit fuller, more chocolate, sweet like chocolate covered cherries, nice feel, coats he tongue and lingers for a while.lots of nice flavors, little heat.Still best to sip slowly and savor the taste.

L: -pours a cloudy mahogany brown with a small to medium,frothy,sand-coloured head -Yeast flakes visible at the bottom of the glass S: -plums,raisins,strawberries,balsamic vinegar, cherries T: -astringent,cherries,plums,r with a grassy bitterniss -high bitterniss for the style F: -medium carbonation -medium to full body -boozy O: Not as Yeast-heavy as the "True" Belgians.Dark Fruit esters are more prominent in this. It almost goes into Flanders Red territory with it's Balsamic vinegar note. A really good and interesting Trappist.
