Bottle picked up at the COOP tonight for about $6... Poured into my HotD goblet and received a short lasting tan head with little to no lacing... the brew is hazy dark walnut... Looked like quite a bit of yeast/sediment got into the glass during the pour before I noticed.
Nose shows earthy dark maltiness with little in the way of traditional esters or phenols.. mainly just dark malt with a subtle kiss of malt sweetness... does not smell "malty" though if that makes sense.
Flavor is dominated by again sorta dry dark malt essence... a bit of sweetness reminds me of a musky mead... dry dusty, sorta nutty dark malt on the finish.
Okay carbonation and body.. but both seem a little muddy.
Better than average certainly, but I guess I was hoping for more.

This is a beer from Stift Engelszell in Austria, and it’s their Gregorius. It’s a Belgian strong dark ale at a whopping 9.7% ABV. It pours out a deep hazelnutty brown color with a beige head on it. It looks like a classic Belgian style ale! The aroma is very sweet. Loads of malt with some dark fruit notes; raisins, plums, figs. There’s a slight chocolate note too. It smells nice! The taste is exploding in your mouth. As soon as you taste it the beer covers the entire pallet. The sweetness quickly turns into a bitter and yeasty taste. It’s definitely a full bodied beer. There’s only a slight alcoholic note in the aftertaste – however you do feel the warmth in the throat. It is a 9.7% beer afterall. This is a decent brew! The looks of the beer are quite nice. The color of the beer is a lovely dark brown. Strong light shows a ruby red/amber glow. The beer is very very cloudy, and sure seems bottle fermented and unfiltered. On top of the beer there is a lovely layer of soft almond coloured foam. The majority of the foam collapses quickly, leaving a thin but nice and soft drape.
The smell of the beer is nice. It smells like a proper dark Trappist beer should smell like. It is quite a warming and sweet smell. I smell sweet malts, caramel, candy sugar, a touch of liquorice and nice bitter hops giving some herbal touches and a nice spicy and also sweet yeast aroma. It is nice. Everything that should be there is there. Lovely.
The taste is the same. Quite sweet, warming and heavy, but still balanced. The sweet tones of malts, candy sugar and caramel are balanced by the bitter hops and the yeasty touches. Nice. There also is a nice taste of some alcohol. Exactly like I expected from this beer. Nice.
The palate of the beer is good. The beer is smooth, full bodied and with a nice medium carbonation. There is quite some alcohol warmth and a nice full sensation. I like this one.

Nice brown Trappist ale, with a sweet (but not too much sweet) taste. The aroma and taste is roasted malt and yeast.

Hazy dark brown colour with some flakes and a medium tan head, nose is yeasty, roasty, earthy, fruity and boozy with notes of plums in rum, apples, vermouth and pudding, taste is sweet, roasty and boozy with a medium dry finish. Marrom escura e intensa turbidez, espuma marrom clara de média formação e persistência. Aroma carregado de figo, malte, passas, licor. Paladar de intenso dulçor, amargor residual. Corpo e carbonatação médios. Final intensifica o dulçor maltado, em momentos trás leve fumo e novamente passas e figo. Um bom exemplar mas tive a impressão que fica atrás de Rochefort e la Trappe.
