Grand tasting at Craft Islington with Hackobock. Thanks to Leighton. Lightly hazy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and airy with decent fine carbonation. Fluffy malts. Sweet floralness. Some champagne vibe, a nice crisp white wine thing. Modest fruits. Smooth finish. Very light for it’s abv and very drinkable.

Bottle split at Hacobok Tasting, thanks to Leighton, 24/11/16. Very lightly hazed golden with a decent off white cap. Nose is pissy lemon whispers, champagne yeast, straw, soft bread. Taste comprises pale malts, lemon drizzle cake, straw, yeast tinges, caramel, damp straw, citric rinds, light pissoi. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok offering ... drinks well below the stated ABV but also fails to deliver the depth such an ABV commands!

November 2016 - Bottle share at CBC Islington. Thanks Leighton! As ’Enlightenment No 1 Brut Bière De Champagne’, 11%. Hazy dark yellow, lightly sparkling, big foamy dense white head leaves thick lacing. Aroma is champagne and apples, woody, green apple. Body is light, spritzy carbonation, frothy. Taste is champagne, sour grapes, mouth drying, varnish, dusty dry finish. Very dry yet there is a sweet toffee vibe that comes up every so often. Very interesting to see what effect champagne yeast has on a beer – I would have sworn this had been aged in champagne barrels. There’s so much champagne character in this. (3.5)

Bottle at Craft Islington, thanks to Leighton. It pours cloudy dirty gold with a thick white head. The aroma is sweet, tangy, white grape, bready malts, alcohol boost, spice, cereal and a touch of gooseberry. The taste is bitter - sweet, white grape, gooseberry, warming alcohol, sherbet, straw and candied citrus fruits. Medium - full body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Works pretty well. Good fun!

Bottle shared in London - picked up in MA. Light gusher. Pours clear gold with a creamy, white head. The nose holds biscuit, yeast, doughy wheat, some white grape. Medium sweet flavour with bready sugars, light vanilla, hints of caramel, wheat bread. Medium to full bodied with massaging carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly warming, with more bread, some further vanilla, impressions of toffee, low bitterness, bread crust. Very nice.

2015-12-27. Crisp dark golden yellow, nice white head. 3+ Aroma of sweet doughy bready pale malt, biscuity touches. Flavour is similar, sweet doughy pale malt, yeasty character. Dry moderately alcoholic finish. Medium bodied effervescent palate. Decent, mostly hits the target style but it’s overly sweet and just okay. 7/4/7/3/14+ Bottle from Boston Wine Exchange, Boston.

Went in expecting to hate this and i didnt at all. Aroma is apple joose, bread, pear, a bit musty, and lemon. Taste is moderate sweetness with pear apple and dough. Finishes lightly tart and dry. Nice thanksgiving sipper. Sad that the brewery is no more.
