750mL bottle, batch 20, drunk 12/19/16.Ktwse (5042) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 8, 2015
Lightly gushing, pouring a deep maize-golden body, good clarity, leaving the sediment behind. Large white head is well-retained.
The nose smells strongly of honey mixed in with light hay, grass, herbs and soft, mineral-rich yeast influences. Enlightenment/Idle Hands has a great Belgian yeast character showing no banana or bubble gum and full of black pepper and mellow fruits and this one is no exception. This definitely has a lot of age on it and it even sat warm on the shelf. It’s impressive that all you get from the oxidation is just nuanced honey, which adds a good layer of complexity and doesn’t disrupt the beer at all.
In the mouth, it’s nicely dry but with succulent malts still adding a soft texture. Honey flavor, be it from the oxidation and/or clean malts is delightful and works well with the peppery phenols and soft, rustic character of the beer. Grass, herbs, fruity esters and tight carbonation make for a very drinkable experience. Excited for Ben’s return.
Pours murky golden with low white head. Aroma of spices, citrus, funk, earth and light honey. Taste is peppery and sweet with a light citrus finish. Light, smooth body with average carbonation. ScipioA (405) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 6, 2015
Pours a slightly hazed gold with a large off-white head that sticks around as long as the beer does. Smells like all sorts of tasty Belgian yeast byproducts along with bread spices. Sadly this doesn’t come together perfectly when when you actually drink it. There’s an intensely herbal and bitter flavor from both the yeast and the hops, none of the soft subtle flavors you’d want in either a good saison or a dry-hopped ipa. On the plus side there is a subtle citrus hop presence, and the aftertaste is spicy saision. Frothy mouthfeel is nice, but it just doesn’t taste good. 10 karat brew with ample carbonation and a nice ivory cap. Hay, grassiness, lemony funk, bright citrus, and yeast. Medium mouthfeel. Refreshing for a hot Arizona summer day but nothing that I’d feel the need to return to. kraddel (8359) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - SEP 28, 2014
