Dark, red/brown, translucent pour with a lasting, tan ring of foam. Aroma is characteristic ’epic’ sake yeast, brown bread, light dried strawberries, with a bit of earthiness and tree bark.
Lightly sweet, medium light body, soft creamy carb, with medium bitter hops in the finish. The earthy/woody aspect really pulls things together nicely. Quite easy to drink, actually; but, the 8% just doesn’t allow for that (personally). Interesting beer, appealingly rustic label concept, and an enjoyable experience.
Bottle. Dark mahogany with a mocha head with lots of sediment left in the bottle. Malty but balanbed, yeast, fresh yet wet, sugarcane with some vanilla, different then I was expecting with a lot going on. Somewhat sweet initially, unami, becomes dry, moderate carbonation and full body with a toffee malt finish and hints of and promises of many more things on the next sip. rodolito (163) - San Diego, California, USA - OCT 3, 2013

Great big off-smelling sour bomb. I don’t think this is the intent; if it is, you’ve fooled me. It’s sour and a bit wild, but not in a good way. Fsck; yet another ten dollar Epic Ales drainpour. Surely I’ll learn this time...?
A gusher, but tremendous. Defies categorization and incredibly complex. Dark brown spirited pour. Getting some sugar in the aroma, followed through by brown sugar in the taste. Also some cherry notes -- perhaps even a bit sour. Seems like up picking up bourbon, wood, and smokey notes too. There's a lot going on here, and its fun picking out the separate notes. A good hoppiness infuses throughout to add liveliness without detracting from the medley -- never cacophony -- of all the other notes. Wow. Need to buy again. A or higher!

22, capped and waxed with a little pull-string of jute. Pours a murky dark brown with a surging, dense, and creamy tan head. Mild brown bread nose with some CO2 showing. Creamy medium body with moderate carb. Brown bread on the mid palate, without too much else. Needs some more complexity and presence.

Bottle:   Deep caramel, somewhat burnt and muddy, moderate to large frothy sandy head, nice lacing.   Smidgen of that saki yeast but its minor, otherwise faint candied citrus peel, musky, burnt straw, and a slightly shrubby floral aspect.   Very different.   On the tongue its very similar, smooth, hides the 8% ABV well.   The saki yeast aspect is very minor, which I like.   This is one of those times, and one of those beers that I keep sipping trying to wrap my head around it.   Very unique and different.   Certainly not a traditional super hopped up malt bomb like the style usually reflects.   This was a nice change. bhensonb (15743) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 3, 2012
Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours murky, ruddy dark amber. With a slight beige head. The aroma is earthy/malty - somewhat like something you’d rather not step in. Full bodied. Flavor is phenolic/medicinal with a lot of hop and malt. On average I’d put this down as dryish and astringent. Figuring I’m gonna be Dr.Jekyl in a bit. Another out of the box ale from Epic. Wowser.
