2010-10-02. Very dark brown body with a foamy tan head. 3+ Dusty, earthy aroma, roast, what I assume is the mushrooms, hints at chocolate. 6+ Flavour is dry and roasty with earthy undertones that build slowly. Roast has an aspect of watery dilute coffee to it. Dry roasty bitterness lingers, some astringency to the roast at times. 6+ Average palate. Decent beer but much to dry and roasty for me. A: The pour is a dark brown with some notes of red and a finger’s worth of tan head.
S: A very interesting aroma to this beer. Quite a bit of chocolate and roasted malt with a definite earthy and musty aroma that is undoubtedly from the mushrooms. There’s a bit of a meaty and lightly smokey aroma as well.
T: The roasted flavors of the stout base are prominent on the front end with some chocolate, and (no other way to say this) dirt. The mushrooms add a really strange flavor that I can’t quite describe, almost sourness.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation, too.

Black with a light brown head. Mushrooms in the aroma. There is heavily roasted grain which gives a hint of coffee. Some more mushroom in the flavor, and a little spice in the finish.

Bottle that Shawn shared with me, thanks: Close to mahogany hue with a small lasting frothy head which produced very good lace. The aroma has notes of smoked meat, chocolate, walnuts, roast, very earthy and slightly herbal as well with a hint pf pepper and ash. I really like the nose on this beer, pretty complex... then there was the taste, starts okay enough with chocolate and nutty tones but then a veggie, fishy and musty overtone took over and ruined it for me. Guess I do not like mushrooms in my beer? Just taste dirty and unrefined. The mouth feel is smooth and ashy, a bit thin bodied as well. Starts great then petered out badly, still nice to try once. bottle. pours a hazy dark brown with a small tan head. initial aroma is like a belgian stout. quite earthy. some light chawky dry cocoa. grainy, but goes down smooth. a chawky, dry, earthy, musty belgian stout that leaves some nice roast character in mouth. mushrooms transformed into earthy, muddied, must. better than expected. Received 22-oz bottle via trade with 5000. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with plenty of particles in the beer, yet holds a beige head that dissipates to a fine film top. Aroma of Shiitake mushrooms, some oysters in a shell, earthy herbs, and a hint of chocolate malt. Taste is medium to full bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of chocolate malt, floral hops and some dried Shiitake mushrooms. Pours dark brown with tan head, aroma is big shittake mushrooms, earth, almost dirt like but in a good way. Taste is some chocolate, nuts, earth, and mushrooms with a fairly dry and bitter finish. I loved this beer! I love stouts and the mushrooms really add a layer of enjoyment. I paired this with salmon and grilled mushrooms which was awesome. I’d like to try this again without having mushrooms in my dish to see how the ale performs by alone. This beer really excited me.
