3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Roasty earthy notes on the nose. Dark brownish-black, tiny ruby hint, almost opaque. Flavor is rich and roasty, with an almost tart quality? Very difficult to describe, as it warms I am getting some coffee sweetness and less tartness. The mushrooms add a fascinating element, earthy, tart, but compliment the malts. Carbonation is medium, body is medium, finishes with some warmth of the alcohol. I can only imagine how awesome this would pair with lots of different food. Very interesting beer, enjoying it greatly...
Sweet on the nose. Expecting a sweet flavor, but it yields to more of an earthy, tangy mushroom flavor. Lingering roastiness. I wasn’t going to rate tonight, but this beer pulled me in to it. It’s not that it is the greatest beer ever, but it’s different. Steve_0 (3744) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 23, 2012
UPDATED: MAY 24, 2012 Bottle at Dans. Poured a deep brown, with a khaki head and a ton floaters in there. Smell is chocolate, roasted coffee, earthy, some dark fruit, and tanginess. Taste is earthy, some chocolate, light tobacco, dark fruit, and molasses. Palate is thick with medium carbonation. Overall, pretty well-balanced and drinks a lot like a stout. Not picking up much of the mushrooms, but I do think they are contributing a lot to the earthiness. notalush (5910) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Thanks to Steve-O for the pour - dark ruby pour - lots of floaties, some fine and some rather large - nose has a fair amount of chocolate, light roast and a fair amount of earthiness, perhaps from the mushrooms, although it is not apparent - pretty full carbonation in the mouth - a lot of vegetal notes up front, followed by bittersweet chocolate and light roast, a bit of doughy character - more vegetal notes in the finish - like a very earthy stout - not bad, but has some flaws. cubs (10693) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of steve_0. Thanks! Light black appearance with a light brown and tons of floaties. Tangy, roasty, dark berry, cherry, earthy, light chocolate aroma. Burnt chocolate, a touch fruity, tangy, roasty, earthy flavor. Can’t say I get mushrooms in the flavor outside of the earthiness. Not bad. reebtogi (6350) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 3, 2012
650ml bottle pours almost black in color with a finger of beige head that leaves only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted malts and chocolate with some earthy notes and traces of coffee. Taste is roasted malty bitterness with some chocolately sweetness and a earthy hop bitterness. Medium body and soft carbonation. This is one of my favorites from this brewery so far. Nicely balanced and well done.

Bottle:   Deep brown, very dark, nearly black, loads of sediment on the bottom of the glass, moderate beige
head, very little lacing.   Earthy roasted malt nose.   Could be mushrooms I suppose.   Just seems rather
earthy to me.   Lactose sweetness otherwise.   Smidgen of coffee bean.   Smooth roasted malt flavor up
front, very Sweet Stout like.   Backside has a bit of a grape popsicle stick... odd.   As it warms I get some
charred wood or campfire.   Remains very earthy from start to finish.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.
Flavorful, but not heavy.   Interesting to say the least, and a bit different. Hophead22 (2879) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - NOV 15, 2011
12oz bottle. Rating #56. Rich dark brown almost black pour with a small tan head. Big dark roasted coffee aroma with a little bitter chocolate. Interesting flavor, more roast with a lot if earthiness as well and more coffee. Not bad. (1999) skoisirius (1909) - Earth, Washington, USA - SEP 9, 2011
What a concept. The mushroom beer. Actually I’ve had a friend brew a stout with "other" types of mushrooms...that was fun ;). This pours a lovely beige color, nice tan head. Seriously, smells of mushroom. Hints of roast. Flavor...is strange! Mushroom, roast, chocolate, and slight burnt flavors mix fairly well, but could be a bit...better. I liked it, I like the idea, but something like this could be even more fully bodied for me. hopdog (12953) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 1, 2011
12oz bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of earth, roast, wet moldy forest floor, and some coffee. Tastes of earth, ’salty’, roast, licorice, some chocolate, and some coffee. This one was different and interesting.
