In the beginning, there was nothing. Then an impish brewer piled a ludicrous amount of hops into a batch of beer. This zymurgical big bang is Epic Armageddon, an apocalyptic assault on your preconceptions and taste buds. It may be too huge for this fragile planet so enjoy this beer like it was the last one on Earth.

50cl bottle from Redmond’s of Ranelagh. Pours clear orange/gold with a thin bubbly white head; not much lacing. Aroma is a pure unadulterated hop hit: plenty of pine, grapefruit, mango, and lychee. Taste also throws those pine/citrus hops right into your face, notes of tropical fruits too but primarily it’s a pine needle and bitter grapefruit combo. Some light caramel malt makes up the backbone to this, but thankfully it stays very much in the background. Medium mouthfeel. Heavy residual bitterness, a long lasting pine/citrus aftertaste. Nice medium dry finish. This is a great west coast inspired IPA, easily rubs shoulders with IPAs from the likes of Green Flash, Stone et al. Lucky to get this tasting so fresh given that it’s come literally half way round the world to us here in Ireland; it certainly isn’t cheap (€8ish per bottle) but I’ll definitely grab another bottle or two. Very impressed.

On tap at Pomeroys in Christchurch NZ, into pint glass. Very nice fruity IPA, reminds me of Ferocious IPA from Midwest Supplies.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2014 Very filtered bright amber colour, hoppy citrus and floral aroma, it is easy and smooth to swill but lacks body, quite citrus hoppy but didn’t go close to achieving the recommendation it was given when I bought it. Nice but not ’great’. 23 November 2014 Bottle @ clancys fish pub city beach. Possibly a little harsh in my early rating..grapefruit/citrus and tropical fruits .. Enough body.. Better rating

Bottle. Pours an orange with a small white head. Massive citrus hop aroma!! Loads of passion fruit, citrus and blood orange. Taste is more fruit and hops. So easy to drink. Sharp bitterness. Awesome beer

Strongly hopped nose with spruce, grapefruit and musky esters. Flavour is richly hopped with a long dry finish. Puckeringly moreish but borderline over the top with the hops, and I’m a dedicated hophead. Slightly concerned about having a Double IPA (Hop Zombie) from the same stable to try later!

I tasted that in comparison to the same brewery’s Zythos. Same translucent copper, a bit lighter. Aroma of sweet, grapey hops not as strong as the other. But flavours are more balanced than Zythos. Hoppy, bitter and rather pleasant. Nice finish, and hardly a detectable palate. I wouldn’t kill for another one though.

500 bottle at home. Pours clear golden with a thin disappearing head. The smell is fruity (citrusy mostly) and floral hops, the flavour is dominated by intense hop bitterness balanced by grapefruit, onion and earthy notes. The body is quite thin with average carbonation. Lingering bitter finish. A very good IPA, definitely worth trying.

500ml bottle. Big pine, orange citrus, little grapefruit, light soapy hop aroma. Grass, some floral, herbal hops. Light malty, bit toasty. Clear yellow color. Good thin off-white head. Good thick lace. Lighter, soft smooth carbonation. Good crisp quality to it, more dry texture. Nice light bitter taste, little sweet zest. Great IPA, better than expected

Clear darkish gold pour with a 2 finger, creamy off white head. Awesome citrus, floral and tropical fruit nose, some toast, caramel and biscuit, but the hops really own the aroma. Flavor is tropical fruit, citrus and berry fruit, some spicy acidic hop bite, toast, biscuit, light, but sweet caramel, floral honey, a hint of lemon and bubble gum. Light to medium bodied with a creamy, oily feel until the somewhat dry, acidic hop dry finish. Fantastic, the best new (to me) IPA I have had in a long time.

Nice floral citrus hoppy aroma. Apple appearance. Taste is a nice citrus bitter. Good beer.
