Pours a cloudy, dark golden copper color with ruby red edges and a one finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.
Earthy aroma with sweet and leathery malt notes countered by grassy hops, dark fruit and alcohol. Hints of toffee, biscuit, hazelnut and rye as well as some earthy, floral hops, cherry, currant and other dark berries.
Medium bodied with a sticky hop presence that provides a dry, bitter counterpoint to the sweet and earthy malt notes. Earthy, grassy hops up front followed by hints of rye, toffee, hazelnut dark frut sweetness and alcohol. Hints of plum, raisin and dark cherry provides some needed sweetness toward the finish. Decent amount of alcohol flavor but the high ABV is well masked making it pretty easy to drink. One of the better beers that I’ve had from Epic. gringo332 (644) - Richardson, Texas, USA - OCT 31, 2015
Brownish color, moderate head, decent lace/retention. Aroma is syrupy caramel, dark bread, notes of darker fruit, alcohol. Full bodied, sweet, somewhat sticky. Cavie (4769) - Arlington, Texas, USA - APR 4, 2015
Bottle courtesy cwsample. Pours a murky reddish brown color with a tan head. Aroma is clay, dusty notes, earthy tones and alcohol. Flavor is dirty, earth tones, hot alcohol and some sweetness. Finishes hot. Bitter end. Sorry, but I don't like this.

651 ml. bottle.Release #16. 10.2% ABV. SLC# 1190. Pours a medium, well retained, ivory head, with slight lacing, over a clear, dark amber (SRM 15) body......nose is toffee/caramel, heavy dried fruit, with plum raisin, light fig, light spice, cereal, minimal hops, balance to the malts.....taste is sweet malts with notes of brown sugar, dried fruits, fig, raisin, plum, leading to slight hop notes, balance heavily to the malts........mouth feel, chewy body, sticky, heavy alcohol, light carbonation. This is a rich, sweet, complex beer, that is quite low in hop aroma and flavors with the malts utterly dominating. As such it is more English than American in style. Sample at the Winking Lizard Epic Tap Takeover on 03/14/2015. This beer pours a hazy mahogany-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roast malt, caramel and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, earthy hops and dark fruit. The finish is malty up front with a resiny hops aftertaste. Above average overall. bu11zeye (13140) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - FEB 5, 2015
(22oz bottle) Pours a clear copper body with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, old books, and toffee. Flavor of caramel, toffee, light cherry, raisins, plum, bread, and some pine with a somewhat thin mouthfeel. stevoj (5425) - Boise, Idaho, USA - FEB 1, 2015
Barley wine bottle share on 1/31, batch #14. More hoppy than other barley wines, not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of barley sweetness, ruby brown pour, some sticky lacing. A little flat on the finish, but really really good overall. julesjis (256) - Oregon, USA - DEC 17, 2014
Poured from a 22. The beer looked thick. Had some certifiable floaties. Aroma was sweet and hoppy. Flavor had a sweet start, malty middle and smooth finish. Sweet flavors were brown sugar and caramel. Great evenly balanced beer. liquidhedonism (289) - Beaverton, Oregon, USA - DEC 16, 2014
22 oz bottle. Aroma: malty, piney, and boozy, with hints of brown sugar, raisin, leather, biscuit, and resin. Taste/Palate: syrupy and sweet; finishes bitter. Amazing malt/hop balance. Perfect!
