COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first sip of this brilliant, red-brown beer reveals a robust mouth feel and complex flavors including raisin, dark bread, some sherry flavors sure to increase with age, resin hops, a touch of old barrel. With the finish comes the aroma and flavor of Columbus hops in your mouth, being followed by the alcohol warmth that can be felt down your throat.

Sample at the Winking Lizard Epic Tap Takeover on 03/14/2015. This beer pours a hazy mahogany-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roast malt, caramel and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, earthy hops and dark fruit. The finish is malty up front with a resiny hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

(22oz bottle) Pours a clear copper body with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, old books, and toffee. Flavor of caramel, toffee, light cherry, raisins, plum, bread, and some pine with a somewhat thin mouthfeel.

Barley wine bottle share on 1/31, batch #14. More hoppy than other barley wines, not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of barley sweetness, ruby brown pour, some sticky lacing. A little flat on the finish, but really really good overall.

Poured from a 22. The beer looked thick. Had some certifiable floaties. Aroma was sweet and hoppy. Flavor had a sweet start, malty middle and smooth finish. Sweet flavors were brown sugar and caramel. Great evenly balanced beer.

22 oz bottle. Aroma: malty, piney, and boozy, with hints of brown sugar, raisin, leather, biscuit, and resin. Taste/Palate: syrupy and sweet; finishes bitter. Amazing malt/hop balance. Perfect!

Numbered bottle. Pours hazy dark amber with medium beige foamy head, strong hops and roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, slightly sweet oak flavored taste with bitter resionus ending, long finish with slightly astringent aftertaste. Strong stuff!

Pours a lovely deep mahogany. The nose on this is incredible. Lots of dark dried fruit and molasses. Notes of vanilla and spice too. Too bad the flavors fall flat. Maybe some sweetness.. A boozy finish... But no complexity.

22oz bottle, from Dutchs. Release #14, 10.4% ABV, den# 1294. Apparently this was bottled 9/30/13, according to the details on Epics website. Pours a completely hazy brown / red color. Kind of darker brick color. Thin ring of off-white head. Leaves some loose ropes of lace. Second pour yields much nice appearance, with better head, and thicker lace. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, light carbonation. Slick, oily texture to the finish. Very interesting malt profile. Darker grains, something like rye, kind of spicy, pretty toasty breadiness. Big piney resiny hop. Big earthiness. Bigger bitter taste. Lighter sweet taste. Some light alcohol in the finish after each sip. Pretty tasty hoppy bitter assertive barleywine. The c-hop gives it a nice edge. Nice taste & flavor. Very nice to enjoy with my dinner. A 3.9 on its own (a score which had been climbing on its own before I entered the kitchen), like a 4.2+ when used for washing down my sandwich. Any hint of alcohol or bite dissapears when paired with a hearty meal, and suddenly it turns from a sipper to an easy-drinker. Finishing off the last half of the bomber in between bites of my dinner was magical. Will revisit this again someday, and in the same fashion.

A decent barleywine, hoppier than most. Pours a nice bright amber with a white head. Smells sweet. Taste starts sweet, but ends a bit bitter. Had on tap at the brewery.
