In the beginning, there was Armageddon. Then an impish brewer put the beer in new oak barrels to age it for 8 weeks. This was to reproduce the original IPA of the 18th century. It may be too huge for this fragile planet so enjoy this beer like it was the last one on Earth.

Strange flavor here. I doubt this is fresh. Get an annoying tangy flavor, with maybe some unpleasant herbalness.

Pours clear pale orange color with off white head. Citrus and lemon aromas with some oak. Lemon and oak flavors with some crystal malt. Medium body with average carbonation. The oak and lemony hops work well together. A nice beer to try but too expensive to have again.

Bottle with a best before date of August 2nd, 2012. Pours with a clear, lighter golden hued body and a just barely off-white head. Good lace and retention. Aromas are fruity, hoppy, grapefruit, citrus zest, tangerine, lots of saw dust, spicy oak and vanilla. The citrus and oak come together with a slight metallic twang. Christmas tree. Light caramel malt. Flavors are green, oaky, spicy, citrusy. Some nice bready malt, vanillin and sawdust. Some under ripe orange. A bit metallic towards the finish. Lively bubbles, lightly tannic, dry.

The aroma is a mix of dry pine and a fruity/mustiness. The flavor is heavy on the grapefruit, very much like grapefruit juice along with a deep hoppiness and bitterness into the finish. Most of the times when IPAs have a grapefruit flavor to it, its more of a hint but this was more direct, a pretty good IPA overall.

Strykzone (7796) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - DEC 22, 2011
Sampled at an esbls tasting. I brought this. Very light haze and golden. Lots of caramel in the nose with lighter fruit. The flavor is floral and fruit hops. A unique hop blend is nice.

500 ml bottle. Pours a semi-cloudy gold color with an inch of eggshell white head. The aroma immediately gives off fresh cut wood, herbal hops, grass, pale malts, caramel, and citrus peel. Flavor of pale and sweet malts, herbal and grassy hops, pine resin, oak, and caramel. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and an herbal, almost soapy mouthfeel. Nice mix of fresh woody barrel notes on a solid IPA.

500 ml. Orange-amber with a ring of sticky foam. Aromas of orange, oak and grapefruit drenched in sticky resin and caramel. Tastes of orange, pineapple, caramel and grapefruit, balanced by peppery resin and dried oak. Dry finish is oak, resin, green herb, and menthol. Light-medium body is watery, tingly and well-balanced. Nice job of barreling this one; its a nice accent of oak laid over a good IPA.

Barrel aged IPAs seem...weird, somehow. Everything is just a little off and discombobulated. Sure there is a nice grapefruity aroma, and some oaky, bourbony smells hiding in there somewhere. but those same components in the flavor don’t really mesh that well. Just odd.

Can’t believe this beer lasted a week in my fridge. Pours a dull and hazy golden yellow. Seemless integration of juicy ripe hops (pineapple and mandarin really stand out) and spicy vanilla oak - both big and expressive in their own right but working well together. Huge complexity of flavour, ending up with a lingering and unexpected tangy sourness. I enjoyed this, very unique - from the tropical / green citrus hop character to to the big oak throughout. Fragrant and intense, a top beer.

500ML Bottle. Hazy golden color sizable head, some decent retention. Citrusy hop aroma, tangerine. Body is medium and smooth, dry finish. flavor has nice nice oak notes and tha hops give an orange like note. Drinks easily, was hoping it would be better. Overal an ok IPA but pricey at $7.99.
