3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle, Release #1. Pours black as night with a medium khaki head. Enormous coffee aromas abound and almost nothing else. The taste is a coffee and alcohol explosion. After a few sips the coffee flavor becomes a bit too astringent, tasting more like a pot of coffee that?s been sitting around for few days rather than a freshly-brewed cup. Hot alcohol warmth burns the throat on the way down. The cocoa nibs come through in the aftertaste adding an earthy flavor and more bitterness. Sticky and syrupy, yet fairly slick on the tongue. This is one of the more perplexing beers I?ve had. Would of liked more roasted malt character, less of a stale coffee flavor, and less alcohol warmth. Its a real sipper and took me nearly 2 hours to finish half the bottle. This gives new meaning to "hot coffee."
Choclatey smooth and creamy without being too sweet. High ABV hidden. Just a nice hint of bourbon to complement every thing else going on with the palate. Overall, pretty good. angoradad (10) - USA - OCT 16, 2017
Pours dark and viscous. Aroma is coffee, chocolate and whiskey. Chocolate is immediate on the front of the palate, which makes way for the hoppier finish. Booze is highly understated. Just the type of beer to open up after a long day of stressful work to relax and listen to classical radio and unwind. bergstaden (3161) - Røros, NORWAY - OCT 16, 2017
