All of us here at Epic are happy to introduce the newest exponential libationBlue Law Porter. This is a medium-bodied porter to which we added blackberry puree at the end of primary fermentation and finished it with spruce tip extract harvested from Blue Spruce trees found on the grounds of Utahs State Capitol building. It has a roasting profile with a fruity tartness and an aftertaste of resinous spruce.

Smells like a plastic strawberry shortcake doll that my sister used to have in the 1980s. Im no doll sniffer, it was supposed to smell like strawberries. It had some weird kind of artificial berry perfume to make it smell that way. Clear garnet, medium yellow head, good lacing. Mulberry flavor, slightly tart. Apple core at midpalate. Im not a fan of fruit flavored porters, but this was respectable.

Tap pours deep mahogany brown with a thick frothy foam. Grainy aroma has low fruit and coffee. Medium body. Blueberry and coffee flavors would be ok by themselves but dont mix well together. Finish is like aluminum.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate light tan head. Nose is rather toasty, but not all that strong. Taste is actually a bit sour at the end, which is interesting. Not hugely flavorful, but not bad.

Bomber to flight glass. Bad. Just plain bad. Any aroma and flavor was artificial and chemicalesque. A dud for all six of us that split it.

Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is sweet with caramel and roasted malts. Slight hint of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is sweet as well with so roasted malts. Only a small hint of some alcohol warming as well.
