All of us here at Epic are happy to introduce the newest exponential libation—Blue Law Porter. This is a medium-bodied porter to which we added blackberry puree at the end of primary fermentation and finished it with spruce tip extract harvested from Blue Spruce trees found on the grounds of Utah’s State Capitol building. It has a roasting profile with a fruity tartness and an aftertaste of resinous spruce.

Bottle. Pours a dark, brown color with a thin, tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some toffee and cherries. Smoked, malt aroma with a large sense of cherries. The finish lingers. Honestly, not the best porter but still has an interesting taste.

Bottle, Rel 2: The aroma has some chocolate, vanilla, and pine. It pours a translucent reddish color that some light can shine thru. It has a large beige head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The finish has lots of pine and faint roast. It’s light-medium bodied with little carbonation. Not my type of Porter.

Bomber. Very unique beer. Aroma is blueberry. Flavor is porter then slight sour sweet berry and ends with a noticeable spruce slap in the face. Not very malty Looks cloudy with thin head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great porter for the price, the dark berry notes work very well with this style! Could use a little more depth and the finish goes a little off if I were to complain...

651 ml. bottle. Release #3. SLC #2145. Pours a medium, gradually diminishing, beige head, with some lacing, over a dark brown (SRM 34) body.....nose is chocolate, coffee from the roasted malts, light berry notes from the additives, light herbal notes from the hops, balance to the roasted malts.....taste is lightly sweet, with hints of raspberry from the spruce, light blackberry notes, heavier, chocolate, coffee from the roasted malts, light herbal hop bitterness on the finish, combined with a heavy lingering, roasted malt bitterness, balance to the malts.....mouth feel, light of medium body, no alcohol, foamy carbonation. The blackberry and spruce contribution was quite light and dominated by the roasted malts. Hop contribution was minimal. Body was The net is a pleasant but quite simple example of a Porter. It would be better with more caramel/crystal malt notes. BJCP 7/3/13/4/6

22 ounce bottle, Release #3, 6.3% ABV, SLC #2145. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head. Head retention is decent, and there’s a lot of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like roasted malt, chocolate, blackberries, and coffee. It tastes like roasted malt, blackberries, wood, bittersweet chocolate, and a bit of tart dark fruit. The label says there’s spruce tips in this brew, but I can’t say I noticed any. I picked up more of the roasty and fruitiness more than anything else. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit coating and has moderate carbonation. I liked this brew, glad I got to try it! Certainly worth a try if you’ve never had it before, I know I wouldn’t turn one down. $7.99 a bomber.

Bottle (release 3). Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (roasted grain, husks, cocoa powder), with notes of lemon juice, bile, car tires, juniper berries, dirt. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, heavily bitter, very unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Wow. This literally made me wince every time it hit my tongue. Very sour and very dirty...impossible to drink; I could not stomach more than 3 sips. Horrible batch.

This is the best beer I have had in a while. The taste is amazing. Slightly effervescent but dark with a great finish

The porter itself is solid. Supplemented with light spruce herbalness. The blackberry lends a sweetness and tartness to the flavor. Different, but good."

After reading reviews I was expecting just a light berry taste. I am getting overwhelming jam taste. Light porter, don’t really get the spruce on it. Towards the very end I am getting a bit of a burnt taste, but overwhelmingly very berry flavored. Hideout’s Blueberry cobbler was better.
