Brainless Belgian-Style Golden Ale is has a rich and complex malt flavor balanced with a little bit of spicy noble hops and strong influences of fermentation esters from the Belgian yeast used. Various Belgian like Rock Candies, hops and grains are employed to express variations within the style. Deceivingly drinkable, some liken theses ales to the Devil sneaking up on you, so consume responsibly.

Aroma: fruity, pear and grapes, slightly boozy, light grains. Pours light golden, quickly dissipating white head, a little lacing. Flavor is strong fruit; banana, pear, light peach note. Slightly sweet, light grains, a little booze. Medium body, slightly sweet and sticky, high carbonation.

Bomber, release #11. Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a half finger frothy white head that quickly settles into a thick lasting ring. Spots of lace left behind and visible carbonation bubbling up. Slightly earthy aroma with boozy sweetness, zesty spice and light fruit notes. Belgian yeast character is prominent with hints of alcohol, bubblegum and apple. Peppery with hints of grassy hops. The nose is pretty subtle however, and nothing really stands out. Medium bodied with a nice balance of earthy hops, peppery spice, Belgian yeast, alcohol and light fruit notes. Floral hops as well some zesty/peppery spice up front which is countered by the Belgian yeast characters and pale malts. Hints of candy sugar, apple, pear, alcohol and bread. Well balanced with a decently masked ABV. Tastes better than it smells with a nice mouthfeel but nothing extraordinary going on here.

Bomber courtesy of douglas88. Pours clear gold with thin white head. The aroma is thick apricot, apple and some pear fruitiness to go along with a lesser amount of grainy maltiness. The taste is similar with robustly sweet and thick mixture of apples, pears and apricot esteriness mixing with some grainy malts.

Bottle @ home. Golden yellow appearance with a fluffy white head. Sweet, light Belgian yeasty, golden malty nose. A touch of fruit tartness, belgian golden malty flavor. Sweet, belgian ale finish. Not bad.

Draft. Pour is gold with an excellent white head with fantastic retention/lacing. Aroma is spicy belgo yeast, banana, hay, grass, lemon. Flavor is sweet, fruity, grassy, a bit of lemon. Palate is mostly sweet, high carbonation, light body. Rather bland but done to the style very well.

GreatLibations (1854) - Last Supper, Arizona, USA - JUN 6, 2011
Beautifully golden with a two finger creamy head that reduces to a nice fluffy lace. Smells rich and malty sweet with a bit of banana, bubblegum, and medicine (in a good way). Full nectar with creamy carbonation. This brew is generous with all that malty goodness. The moderate sweetness is offset by a nice acidic twitch which brings a sense of balance. Good aroma to flavor follow-through. The finish lingers. This brew is really quenching my thirst despite it’s heavy on the palate structure. Brainless is true to style and very fresh tasting.

(22oz bottle, Batch #17, 8.5% abv). Pours clear golden with white head. Active carbonation. Aroma of belgian yeast, green apple, spices, hard candy. Taste is sweet, with the rock candy and apple being prominent and a bit of hop bite that subsides as the sweet, yeasty malts resurface. Medium bodied with a slick, almost buttery, texture. Smooth finish that is almost cider-like. Solid offering from Epic!

onceblind (9663) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 25, 2011
Clear gold in color, smells of wheat and lemon zest, with a touch of barnyard hay. Taste has a bit more malted sweet barley than I expected. Pretty crisp, yet kinda bland. Considering the hay, funk, and citrus, you’d think this was a saison. Not bad, just not very memorable.

Nickls (2535) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - MAY 5, 2011
Bottle. Lightish yellow gold that’s mostly clear, with a very thin white head. Yeasty and faily boring overall in the aroma. Touch of booze in the flavor, which turned me off, but yeasty, slight hop presence and some candy. Lighter, fluffy body. Just OK.
