Epic Brainless on Cherries (Batch 1 - 4, White Wine Barrel)

RATINGS: 104   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.33/5   SEASONAL: Special   EST. CALORIES: 309   ABV: 10.3%
Note: only batches 1-4 were in the white wine barrels, all others need to be rated under the red wine barrel entry. We took our double gold medal winning Brainless Belgian, added cherry puree and aged it in French Chardonnay casks for a secondary fermentation in the barrels. Pours a beautiful deep ruby color with a medium white head. A nice nose of sweet cherries, Belgian malts, and barrel aging.

22oz bottle, release #1. Pours an unusual pinkish red with a big fizzy/bubbly (actually kind of loud) light pink head that fizzes down quickly to a thin film and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is musty earthy wood with some sweet medicinal cherries.

The flavor is some sweet artificial tasting cherry with some wood and an off kind off leathery bitter taste in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with sharp carbonation.

Overall, I really didnt care for this one. The cherry flavors seemed fake and it had some off notes. Their peach was much better.

Bottle. Thick yeasty chunk in the nose. Tangy, slighty cherry tastes in the flavor...mostly yeasty though. Too yeasty, really...pretty much all yeast in the flavor. Yeast. Yeah.

Bomber from secret santa; clear rosy red with faint white head; dry cherries, vanilla syrup and dry malt; the base beer is trumped by the cherries and the sharp, lemon malt is completely gone; this beer is crazy dry with mild cherry syrup; eh, not my cup of tea

Pours a cloudy ruby red with a decent foamy head. Aroma of light fruit and sweet cherries, caramel malt, honey and yeast. Flavor is sweet malt and lots of fruit. Good stuff. The base beer benefits nicely from the addition of cherries.

The pour on this beer is its best feature. I love the red/ruby color in the glass. You can get a good whiff of the cherries and hops. I have sensitive taste buds to tart things and this was one of those that seemed a little sour to me. Its a pretty beer, but not one of my favorites. I love the Peach version much more.

thanks ben! dark rosy pink, creamy off white head. waxy pie cherry aroma, canned fruit. very dry with a woody tannin body that scrubs away most of the fruit.

Magnum bottle purchased at Epic. Poured into 2 glasses, first poured brilliant ruby color, no head. Second glass poured cloudy and pink, still no head. Started with a slight white bubble halo, which faded like the innocence of youth (way too soon). This beer was strange in the fact that there was prickly carbonation, but no visible signs. The nose carried cherries, estery Belgian yeast, and alcohol. The taste is reminiscent of grenadine, cherries, and minimal malt, but avoids being syrupy or hot. Finishes extremely dry.

Bottle at Brewforia Beer Market in Meridian, ID Ruby red color and nary a head but for a thin line of bobbles around the edge. Nice Cherry aroma, slightly of cough syrup, and a soft woody note as well. Flavor was a nice balance of the moderate Belgian yeast character and an up front byt not over powering cherry flavor. A little alcohol note added to the slight cough syrup flavor, but nicely done. Mild and not obnoxious, but not particularly bold and daring. Tasty.

Superdave with another Epic hookup. Bottle pours like a glass of murky cherry juice with a white head. Aroma is candied and sweet with notes of cherry, pomegranate, nutmeg and a touch of funk. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of stone fruit, primarily peach. Overall body is moderate, dry, and lightly acidic.

22 ounce thanks to douglas88. Ruby/pink color with nice carbonation. Taste is white wine driven by cherry and Belgian yeast. Little bit of tart. Very light and drinkable for 10 percent. Release #1 on the bottle.
