Epic Brewing Companys latest barrel-aged beer brings something newwild yeast. This brew is a collaboration ale with Crooked Stave Artisan Brewing of Fort Collins, Colorado. Chad Yakobson, Brewmaster/Owner of Crooked Stave, is well known for his skill and knowledge in the brewing of sour and Brettanomyces driven beers. The beer was brewed at Epic by the two brewers. Kevin Crompton, Epics Brewmaster, and Chad spent several weeks working on the recipe and selecting the proper Brett strains and barrels for the beer to morph from a golden Saison into a Saison-Brett Golden Ale.

This is a simple beer, but extremely well executed, in my opinion. The brett is done nicely. Golden pour with a generous creamy white head. A nice tartness from the brett. Sour apple, with the typical horse blanket flavor, but not puckering sour that can detract or be too overwhelming. This is a beer that I purchase every once in a while. Too pricey for a go to beer, but I really enjoy this when the money is set aside for a bottle.

Bottle courtesy of Andrew shared with Andrew and Brendan. Pours a hazy golden body with thin tightly bubbled white lacing. Aroma is funky lemon and musky Brett. Mouthfeel is sour with notes of lemon Brett funkiness, sourdough , yeast and light earthy character. Nice.

there seemed to be a good base underlying this beer but the enjoyment was mild due to quite a bit of butter flavor... oh well, epic makes nice beers but this was not one of them... . they call me toothless joe, but jokes on them, i have dentures and my name is sally.

Bomber with Z, pours a honey colored hazy pour with no head. Nose is champagne, sour and tart. Taste is sour, acidic and tart and bitterly refreshing. Well balanced and light. Finishes on the same sour notes, delicious sour ale. Quaff score 8 / 10

Pours golden with a white head and nice sour, tart, fruity aroma. Taste is a very drinkable sour, not overpowering, with tart, fruit, brett, with floral and dry yeasty notes into the finish. Delicious brew, great sour

Bomber from craftshack. Batch 3. Pours and looks exactly like bud heavy. Aromas of some peaches and a light bretty must. Taste is semi sweet and only lightly bitter. Flavors of sweet apple, peaches and a touch of funky brett. Not tart, not puckering, just slightly bretty. Finishes sweet. Not very good.

Bottle. Golden pour with white frothy head. Tart lacto, brett, and fruit aromas. Malty fruit, sour tones. Aroma outshines the flavor.

Bomber of release 4 at 9.1 % abv purchased from Epic Brewing. Pours hazy light golden with a tall white head. The aroma is the perfect marriage of what I expect from Epic beers and Crooked Stave beers. It has the assertive body and esters I associate with Epics Belgian style beers and it has the perfectly incorporated funky Brett that I associate with Crooked Staves beers. There are strong vinous notes of muscadine wine in the aroma along with cloves, barnyard and light flowers. The mouthfeel is full, and though I generally prefer a medium/light or very spritzy mouthfeel for this kind of thing, it works well here. Drying, sour notes of muscadines are in the flavor also along with cheese, barnyard, lemon juice and flowers. As the beer warms, the alcohol starts to become a little noticeable, but not too bad. This is tasty stuff.
