Coffee, Fig, Coconut Oatmeal Stout. While this sounds like it should be divine I didn’t dig it for two reasons. One is that this is one of those stouts that is super dry and super super ashy, with very little sweetness or malt character to balance. The other is that it smells and tastes like burnt coffee. I couldn’t get any fig, coconut or oatmeal character and didn’t get very far before giving up on this incredibly astringent ashy beer.
2015 Vintage. Pours a deep black with light brown head. Huge aroma full of coffee and dark chocolate. Full body with rich chocolate flavours which develop into coffee notes. The oatmeal provides a sweetness which lessens any bitter notes from the coffee. Delicious. explosivedog (1504) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - APR 9, 2017
On tap at the Lumsden (apparently the only keg ever as part of the Lumsden’s birthday celebration). Pours black with a little translucency. Thick body. Figs, cherries, coffee, nutty. Lots of sweet fruit up front, lots of bitter coffee and bitter roasty notes after and then a nice long coffee finish. The coffee and figs take centre stage over the stout but it all blends together outstandingly well. An absolute delight. Lunkie (1956) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - APR 1, 2017
Coffee malt spice aroma. Dark brown colour good head and lacing. Stale coffee malt flavour. Flat palate.

2013 version. Harsh aroma. Stale burnt coffee and musty wardrobes. Palate and flavour is beautiful. Sweetness up front countered with a balanced coffee finish. The figs and coconut don’t really feature. joe19612 (3020) - camberley, Surrey, ENGLAND - JAN 6, 2017
Bottle. Pours a deep black colour with a fluffy beige head, aroma is roasted malt with hints of coffee, the taste is medium bitterness with the coffee coming through with a dry bitter finish. CRock (262) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 26, 2016
Really well balanced beer. The creaminess of the stout with the subtle fig made it a great beer on Christmas day. ANZUShophunter (507) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 3, 2016
From bottle in Belgian ale glass. Pours black with tan head and aroma of coffee and roasted malt that continue through to the palate. Didn’t pick up as much fig as I was expecting although I’d aged this for 6 months.
