2015 Vintage. Pours a deep black with light brown head. Huge aroma full of coffee and dark chocolate. Full body with rich chocolate flavours which develop into coffee notes. The oatmeal provides a sweetness which lessens any bitter notes from the coffee. Delicious.

On tap at the Lumsden (apparently the only keg ever as part of the Lumsden’s birthday celebration). Pours black with a little translucency. Thick body. Figs, cherries, coffee, nutty. Lots of sweet fruit up front, lots of bitter coffee and bitter roasty notes after and then a nice long coffee finish. The coffee and figs take centre stage over the stout but it all blends together outstandingly well. An absolute delight.

2013 version. Harsh aroma. Stale burnt coffee and musty wardrobes. Palate and flavour is beautiful. Sweetness up front countered with a balanced coffee finish. The figs and coconut don’t really feature.

Bottle. Pours a deep black colour with a fluffy beige head, aroma is roasted malt with hints of coffee, the taste is medium bitterness with the coffee coming through with a dry bitter finish.

Really well balanced beer. The creaminess of the stout with the subtle fig made it a great beer on Christmas day.

From bottle in Belgian ale glass. Pours black with tan head and aroma of coffee and roasted malt that continue through to the palate. Didn’t pick up as much fig as I was expecting although I’d aged this for 6 months.
