ITM Brown IPA
Bingo, Boom, Shakalaka. No Agenda. Good beer.
This beer has been brewed to be Epic’s entrant into the 8th Annual West Coast IPA Challenge at the Malthouse in Wellington on the 17th of July, 2015.

No Agenda is named after the podcast of the same name. It is a media deconstruction for those people that take the time to question things, very much the way craft beer drinkers do. Taking the time to think about the aromas and flavours they experience in each beer they drink

The beer is brewed with Centennial, Equinox and Chinook hops, which give it a hop forward aroma and flavour of intense fruit and pine. There is a note of the roasted brown malts, but it is obvious this is an Epic beer with hops dominating.

This beautiful hoppy brown ale pours almost jet black. The aroma is a stunning combination of treacle, ash, toffee and floral hops. The flavour is a slightly subdued version of the aroma. Improves as it warms slightly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle (was a bit past the best before but still plenty of hop character so probably ok). Pours very dark brown. Pine, grapefruit, orange pith, lots of walnuts and hazelnuts in the flavour. Full body. Very nice.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2016 From a bottle. Quite a lot of rich spicy malt flavours like a whiskey, heaps of fruity hops, very tasty.

Bottle from The Wine Emporium 160716. This is a brown ale on steroids and fills the nose with chocolate and cocoa aromas with some vanilla thrown into the mix. Cola brown colour with reddish flecks speckled throughout. Coffee coloured head that slowly settles. Lively in the mouth and the first thing that you notice is a big hit of alcohol in the first mouthful followed by a bitter burnt toast flavour. There is a long bitter aftertaste and also a big hit of hops.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2016 500ml bottle BB 13/8/2016 so getting towards end date. Fruity malty aroma. Poured lovely dark brown with cream head. Medium bitterness was followed by a mild body and a slight hoppy finish. There was also the hint of oxidation that was to be expected given it’s age. I’ve had a lot of other beers recently which have still had at least another 6 months on the clock and tasted of damp cardboard so this was a pleasant surprise. I must say I did expect a bit more in the taste/palate but over all ok and perfectly drinkable.

Pours brown with a large head. Nose shows spicy and herbal hops, some nutty and bready malt. Flavours include more of the spicy and herbal hops, some resinous notes and a little toasty malt.

Smells of brown sugar and pine. Taste is toffee malts and light citrus, with some sort of piney/grassy/spicy thing going on as well. Tough one for me and this seems a very adventurous beer. I liked it a lot.

500ml bottle with best before date of 29/6/16. Opaque dark brown with a fluffy stable tan head. Nose has toasty caramel malts, brown sugar, pungent pine needles and a whiff of smoky bacon. Taste is sweet and malty at first before a prominent resinous dry hop finish and a hint of peppers. Palate is fullish and sticky with a medium carbonation. A ramped up hoppy brown ale.

Alluring citrus pine aroma in a dark red-brown pour. Taste is lighter than expected (from color and strength) but nicely balanced with a clean finish.
