375 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/light copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart red/black cherry, plum, raisin, fig, currant, berry, red grape, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, and brown bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, pepper, vanilla, toffee, whiskey, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/light acidic yeast, plums, dark/bready malt, and whiskey barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart red/black cherry, plum, raisin, fig, currant, berry, red grape, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, and brown bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, pepper, vanilla, toffee, whiskey, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and light yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of red/black cherry, plum, dark fruit, berry, red grape, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toffee, vanilla, whiskey, light funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/light acidic yeast, plums, dark/bready malt, and whiskey barrel flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from tartness/acidity. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, fairly acidic/tannic, and lightly silky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 7.5%. Overall this is an excellent Flanders brown ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/light acidic yeast, plums, dark/bready malt, and whiskey barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly lactic/tannic/drying finish. Great fruit presence, Brett complexity, and dark/bready malt flavors; with just enough Lacto to balance the sweetness. Nice whiskey barrel presence as well. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

FROTHINGSLOSH (7944) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 30, 2017
Sampled on draft at Tapped this beer poured a very dark brown color with a small beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was vinegar, soy sauce and a touch of vague dark fruits. The flavor was vinegar, soy sauce and hints of plum and wood. Long finish. Medium body and undercarbonated. Disappointing.

From a 375 ml bottle dipped in purple wax. Pours a deep mahogany with an ecru head. Aroma of tart red cherries. Flavors of plum and oak. Smooth and only mildly sour. A deliciously put together and presented beer.

Man this was a damn good beer. Aroma was mouth watering. Oak, slight vinegar and sour dark cherry. Pour was a beautiful deep dark murky brown with amber hues and a thin off white film for a head that left quickly. Taste was deliciously sour and complex. Dark cherry, vinegar and tart plum in the front. The finish was sour with a nice vanilla and whiskey note. As it warmed that whiskey and a light woody flavor showed some more. Good strong carbonation

ajnepple (6840) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 30, 2017
On tap at the Epic Brewing Denver Taproom. Hazy reddish brown appearance. Aroma of dark fruits, sour funk, mild vanilla and a hint of oak. Similar flavor, sour, fruity and tart with light barrel notes. Medium body with a mild puckering feel and a lingering plum finish. Hints of earth, caramel/toffee and leather eventually develop. A nice sour ale overall.
