bottle at cropredy ... deep black ... bubbly foam tan head ... soft meaty coffeee nose ... soft rich dark malts ... soft blackcurrant ... chcolate malts ... quite a big pine hop ... little tooooo hoppy for me Vignale (3939) - Malmö, SWEDEN - AUG 26, 2011
Bra balans. Riktigt lyckad. Fin (10743) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - AUG 16, 2011
Bottle at Cropredy Festival, Cropredy, nr Banbury, Oxon very kindly shared by Craig. 13.08.11 Pours black with a beige head. This is very fruity with plums all over it, some fruity sourness, fruit skins. There is an undercurrent of coffee and it is nicely roasty. Good beer. Bottle from New World. Dark brown pour with a sienna head leaving heavy lace. Chocolate nose. Medium-light body and moderate carbonation. Baking hocolate, dark roast malt bitterness, licorice and some citrus hops. Dryish, short finish. Light mouth feel and some tartness (2010) make this somewhat of an odd one to judge.. harrisoni (19024) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JUL 30, 2011
Bottle at a BF in Rome at Mes’ stag do. Choc almost bourbon like aroma. Bit too carbonated. Good choc. Likeable. Ok

Coffee and choclate flavour. gyllenbock (9328) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 22, 2011
Black with a large tan head. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some light notes of hops. On the thin side, nothing special. The finish was dry.

I found so much to like about this beer. It could have been the time and place elements (it was smack in the middle of an Epic Brewery tasting and it mad for a pleasant distraction from lots of hoppy beers).
Smells plummy and roasty with molasses, spice and Christmas cake While it smells more fruity than anything else, it has certain oakiness about it that is rather wonderful. Tannin?
Upon tasting there is a moment of shock and surprise as the enormity of all the flavours hit you at once. Plums, molasses spicy and maturity. A perfect reflection of the aromas. When allowed to warm in the hand there’s treacle pudding, dark chocolate and burnt caramel. It becomes more herbal as you go on: rosemary and also a buttery Chardonnay-like flavour.
The brewer used brown malt for its aging capacity, Bramley Cross and Target hops and medium tasted brand new American oak barrels.
Immensely satisfying and joins the pantheon of my favourite beers. Simply outstanding. anders37 (26845) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAY 9, 2011
Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma with some hoppy hints. Roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor with hoppy hints. Has a roasted malty chocolate and coffee finish. rlgk (18851) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - APR 5, 2011
Bottle. Black beer with a creamy beige head. Malty chocolate aroma, milky and with some hops. Thin watery flavor, rather disappointing.
