On tap at thr brewery. Poured a deep brown color with a half inch off-white head that faded to a thin layer and left some spotty lacing. Aroma of wheat, a soft roasted maltiness, some clove, pepper, faint banana fruit, and a light touch of chocolate. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with a touch of citrus fruit (orange) that leads into a wheaty middle paired with a moderate spiciness (clove and pepper) and a light fruitiness (more citrus and light banana) that lingers into the finish where it is paired with a moderate yeastiness and a soft chocolate maltiness. Moderate carbonation and lightly prickly, yet full mouth feel. Overall, it’s a solid rendition of the style with a light overall maltiness compared to the traditional wheat characteristics.
Murky crayola brown with a thin Rocky light beige head. Wheaty cocoa aroma with a wee dose of ripe banana and gentle earthiness. Flavor has a nice wheaty earthy tone with ripe banana, dried cocoa, and finishes with a bit more earthy malt. Pour on tap at the brewery, dark reddish with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, hints of spice and phenolic pepper, hints of banana but fairly restrained, kind of a wet wheat note with some slight chocolate. Very dark chestnut color - impressive lace - very dry and tart, bordering on sour - not of raisin, fig, cocoa, roasted nuts, a lot of clove - a bit of toffee sweetness lingers far in the back - mild acidity in the finish, with lingering clove and a hint of tobacco leaf - I can see how others might not like it, as it is not true to style and is a bit sour - I actually like my dunkelweizens sour, though - decent beer.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2011 On tap @ Equinox. Dark brown appearance with a light tan head. Roasty dark chocolate malts with very light notes of banana and clove in the nose. Roasty, dark wheat/chocolate malty flavor with some banana and clove tastes. Slightly bitter maltiness. The malts used create a different body and flavor than most other dunkelweizen beers and I’m not too impressed by it.
