A very hoppy, American style imperial stout, with strong Amarillo in the nose and flavor - lots of black malt bitterness and roasted barley compliment these hops fairly well - some smooth oat charcter, but the barley is a light bit abrasive - despite this, the hop and malt character play off of each other fairly well - however, there is a light vegetal note that is a touch off putting - otherwise fairly good.
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with thin tan head, aroma has notes of roast, espresso, slight chocolate, touch of dark fruits but mainly roasted and caramel. On tap at Hops and Pie poured a clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of toffee, light roastiness and light coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. UPDATED: FEB 25, 2012 Tap @ Equinox. Black appearance with a brown head. Super roasty, somewhat burnt malty aroma. Bitter, dark chocolate, super roasty, espresso, chocolate malty flavor. Alright.
