A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Pours very dark brown with a beige foamy head. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel, nuts, yeast and ripe berries. Taste is sweetish with slightly roasted malts, caramel and a hint of chocolate. Finishes with moderate spiciness. A good example of the style. (0,5 l bottle, bb 11/2017)

hauxe (937) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - APR 22, 2017
Pours very dark brown from the bottle and leaves a tall, foamy off-white crown. A few evident floaters. The aroma is dank, yeasty, a bit nutty; noticeably absent is the banana component so prevalent in this style of beer. Taste is lightly milk chocolate sweet, trending sour going into the finish. Overall however the flavors are dampened by the somewhat watery impression the beer leaves behind, and there is not much complexity in the taste. Lighter than average body with a prickly carbonation. Decent but not particularly good.

Big, puffy head releases a mild aroma of yeast, caramel and roasted nuts. Medium weight and sweet body. Not much hop bite. A good example of a tasty style. Poured from a half-liter bottle.

Bottle. Dark brown with shades of orange and black. Big foamy head. Aroma of (roasted) malts. Taste is malts, plums, chocolate, sugar and only a little bit of bananas. Almost no yeast character to speak of. Finish is sweet, a little bit sour and bitter. Medium carbonation. Ok.

Donkerbruin, volle schuimkraag die crèmekleurig is, veel koolzuur, troebel. Aroma: Moutig, geroosterd, noten, iets kruidig, tarwe, zoetig, iets fruitig. Mild aroma. Vrij vlak. Medium body, zacht mondgevoel, veel koolzuur, afdronk is moutig en vlak.

DavidWoodruff (631) - Windsor, California, USA - MAR 30, 2017
Dark brown with a tan head. Nutty aroma with some spice notes. Malty, nutty flavor with a touch of marzipan and spice. Light bodied with high carbonation. Not much complexity for a Dunkelweizen.

geolgau (456) - Cluj-Napoca, ROMANIA - MAR 28, 2017
0.5 Bottle. Nose is not very strong: sweet malts, caramel, a bit fruity. Light body, medium-high carbonation. Flavors also not very pronounced and following the nose. Light nutty. Okay.
