A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Purchased from Leary’s for $3. Single bottle. Pours a murky mahogany dark brown with a thin tanned head. Smells fairly roasted and of caramels, wet oak, pear skins and tobacco. Tastes the same. Mint and dandelions by swallow. Hmmm... decent.

Bottle. Dark brown color, hazy. Tan head. Munich dunkel like aroma, dark malts, bready, sugar sweetness. Low yeast character but some fruit. Flavor has similar notes but faint. Bready notes, sweet bready, light fruity yeast esters. Some banana notes but low. Balanced. Easy finish.

shanoknowsfood (102) - Hawaii, USA - NOV 28, 2017
Bottle at Whole Foods. Looks & smells great! Tastes like treacle. Refreshing but a bit thin & watery for me...weak, too. Nothing to get excited about. Since i don't drink but a couple beers at a time, i expect them to be thick, rich, complex, and strong. Whole Foods has limited management when it comes to getting new & interesting beers in, and i go there more than anywhere else, since i don't frequent brew pubs...as there are few around these parts. But at least they coulda got the Dopplebock instead of the Dunkel. Will not be trying this again.
