Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

Have had many a good German beer, so I was somewhat let down by this one. The fruity aroma was appealing and it forms a nice brownish colored head. The taste was average and it had to much carbination. It was similar to drinking root beer.

Hazy brown with a quickly disappearing large tan head. Aroma of fruit, dark malts, alcohol, dates and light banana. Taste of fruit, caramel, brown sugar, alcohol, dark malts, light chocolate and sugar. Lively carbonated body has a dry finish.

Deep red/brown color with a large head. Big Munich malt aroma, lots of wheat and some toasted malt. Very thick and chewy malt flavor. Definitely seemed like biting into a thick loaf of bread. Quite yeasty. A little banana. Great.

The last time I had this I was in Germany, looked forward to trying it again and reviewing for the first time. Very dark ruby red and brownish in color. Caramel, plum, burnt sugar came through in the nose. Taste was much of the same, but more noticeable. Hints of banana and clove hidden in there as well. High carbonation with a full body to back it up. Not available near me, but a solid choice when I have the chance.

bottle, heads starts out huge and fades to crema, dusty chocolate and caramel nose, flavor gets fruity and more chocolate, feels a little watery but finishes strong and dry

Pours a dark cloudy caramel colour with a thin white head. Aromas of cocoa, chili peppers and caramel. Flavor is semi-sweet, chocolatey malts and touch of roasted almonds. Very smooth mouthfeel, little carbonation, overall pleasent.

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Not much foam, but okay for a weizenbock. The aroma is very, very sweet. Tastes strong and malty, finish is malty and dry. Very drinkable for its strength. Good beer!

Pours with a small, off-white head that goes quick. Hazy brown body. Aroma of bananas, clove, toffee, raisins, and sweet malts. Taste is sweet with bananas, vanilla, and a touch of soy sauce.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2009 ...bottle. Pours a dark brown, with a large rocky tan head thad did fade. Very good, the best that Erdinger makes in my opinion. Great roasted malt flaovors, wheat is there, blended well with spicy hop notes. Malt masks the high alcohol content, smooth, very good. Definitely worth a try if you can find the stuff. RR: Lots of strong grape notes and other dark fruits, not as smooth as it should be, needs more yeast, but still overall a pretty well-balanced brew.
