COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a slightly darker color and slightly higher alcohol content than the classic ERDINGER Weissbier 'with fine yeast', the 'winter brew' offers a really pleasant change at the coldest time of the year, a time when we like to treat ourselves to something special. Available between November and February.

Toweringly huge, vey persistent, and ultra dense & fine off-white head over fully hazy orange beer. Very malty nose, including coloured malts, but no real wheat whatsoever. Bit lactic, faint sourish-fruity and a hint of cypress. Again mainly malty; caramel malt, and just a touch of wheat(malt) retronasal, as well as a bit of citrus. Dull banana, but certainly not outspoken. Rather better bodied than most Weizens, seems yeast-filled, slick. Uncharacteristic Weizen, very malty, but not bad per se.

Large off-white head of fine bubbles with light carbonation. Head reduces slowly. Slight metallic aroma with some minerals, crisp lemon, wheat and straw. Aroma dissipates rather quickly though. Color is a hazy golden orange. More lemon and straw along with some bready malts and a bit of grit from the wheat. Crisp and clean flavor and palate. A decent weissbier. Purchased and sampled in Ireland.

Bottled, 500ml from Lorne, many thanks. Hazed gold with white head. Spicy nose with a yeasty background leading to quite a heavy bubblegum flavour mixed with banana and clove. Some orange zest but overall a little full on with the flavours.

(Bottled, rated 2011-12-05) Hazy golden with a large head. Mild aroma of dryish-neutral wheat malt and banana. Quite malty flavor wor a hefeweizen, with smooth, sourish wheat, some cloves and strawberries, not much banana. Medium to full body, soft and low CO2. Clearly has more body than average Hefeweizens, and fruitiness is of a darker kind. Not a winter warmer, though, or the most complex one. Clean and well made, but doesn’t stand out from the masses.

Nig soapy bubbles in the short lasting head. Body is hazy and orange, pretty nice. Clementines, bit of clove, white bread and peanuts. Tastes quite uninteresting really. Light bitter and not much spicyness. After taste is short lived too. Very easily drinkable but one might expect a more exciting winter warmer, not it a watered down Hefe. (50cl bottle, 2,50 EUR)
