Beer Stories
Brewery folklore tells a story about a train engineer with a passion for the taste of Railbender Ale. With every stop he made in Erie came an equal number of stops at our brewery. One extended visit to our fermenter left the engineer in a rather befuddled state of mind. On his fateful trip out of Erie that evening, his train mysteriously derailed. The engineer swears that a huge black cherry tree had fallen across the tracks as the culprit. No such tree was ever found, but the front of the locomotive was spattered with hundreds of red sports. In tribute to this folklore our expert brewers introduce Derailed Black Cherry Ale – brewed with fresh sweet black cherries and the finest malted barley to create a truly cherrylicious ale. Please enjoy responsibly, as we would never want you to get derailed!

Slight artificial cherry aroma and a bitter sour cherry taste. Nothing special about this beer, in fact it wasn’t very good. I’m glad I only purchased 1 bottle.

Draft. Poured a clear reddish dark amber color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate cherry and toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium cherry sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectation where met.

@ Party Town / Florence KY - Hazy medium amber, white head cover, streaks of lace. Aroma is interesting - malt with a bit of maple. Taste is routine malt that moves effortlessly (without complexity) through the palate before adding a bit of cherry in the finish. Drawback: tart cherry lingers till the very end, masking any other flavor. Reasonable, not great.

Bottle split at Christine and Daves thanks to DLJ, 27/11/13. Clear golden with a moderate off white head that clears edgeward. Nose is berry fruit, malt, sugars, artificial fruit flavouring. Taste comprises fruit syrup, toasted malts, sugars, berry fruit, caramel, sweet cherry drops. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet syrupy closure. Sub mediocre sweet meh !

12oz bottle - shit, I thought this was the Raibender Scotch Ale. It’s a good thing I like fruit beer. pours pale gold with white head. Nose is bad fruity yogurt. very fizzy and here’s the cherry flavor. A little smoky. "I spend my days and nights deranged!!!" mildly sweet and a tad tart.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a thin beige head. Aroma of sweet malt and cherry extract; almost black cherry Kool-aid. Malty flavor with big artificial cherry flavor through to the finish.

Mystery beer at Green Dot Stables in Detroit, Michigan. Figured I’d give it a try... never heard of the beer or brewery before. Well... I’m surprised this beer is classified as a cream ale. What? It’s the very definition of a fruit beer. The black cherry is on the front and back and everywhere in between. It’s in the smell, and it’s all around. The aftertaste is somewhat tart and pretty sweet, with a malt body that reminds you that this is a beer and not some sort of a wine cooler. Make no qualms about it, this is a fruit beer. It’s not a beer with fruit juice added, it tastes like fruit juice with beer added ... take that as you will. It’s not an awful beer, but one was enough for me, and I doubt I could ever have more than two in a session. The dominance of the cherry makes this a super "girly beer". Some malt, lots of tart and sweet cherries. It’s not bad by any means, but it’s far from great.

Pretty week pale cherry ale with a slight tartness from the cherries, but that's all. Otherwise a pretty bland ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
