3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Friend of mine had a few of these. Poured medium to dark brown with light head. Very sweet aroma. A little watery but nice caramel notes. A good beer.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance –Served a deep mahogany color with some ruby red highlights shining through. Upon serving there is a small tannish head that fades relatively quickly to leave a light film on the brew.
Smell – The aroma has a nice dark fruit aroma of cherry and some chocolate as well as a little bit of a bready aroma. Mixed with this is a bit of nut as well as some light coffee rounding out the smell nicely.
Taste – the taste begins with some roasted malt as well a bit of chocolate up front. There is a moderate sweetness present as well, consisting mainly of a dark fruit taste with a bit of almost milky sweetness. The flavors present upfront remain largely throughout the taste and are joined by a light coffee and nut flavor which biter the brew slightly. In the end a roasted sweet, but lightly bittered flavor is left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfel- The body of the beer is on the average to above average side for a brew of only 5.4 % with a carbonation level that is rather average. Both are rather good for the style and create a slightly heavier feel with the creamier body but yet maintain a good drinkability due to the moderate carbonation.
Overall – A decent drinking brew with nice cocoa and roasted flavors and a thicker body then would have been expected for a brew of only 5.4 % abv Overall a nice drinker. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 17, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber body under a small off-white head that faded very quickly. The nose is pretty nice, very dry and toasty with some huskiness and a light chocolate note. The flavor is a bit off though, a little too thin and overly grainy with a slightly soggy and wet huskiness on the finish. Not a whole lot of fruitiness from the yeast and pretty devoid of hops. Light bodied with a husky and grainy texture, soft fizzy carbonation. This is another in a long line of disappointing beers from Erie Brewing. Amazed these guys are still in business. Jacksonville, Fl - Grassroots Natural Market - 12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a thin off white head. Aroma has a nice nuttiness to it, some coffee and chocolate. Flavor is full bodied and bold. Nice nutty, cola-like tones, some chocolate, coffee and plenty of roastiness. Nice thick and chalky mouthfeel. One of the more flavorful alts I have had - pleasant surprise! GT (10002) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 16, 2013
355mL from Grassroots Market is Jax, Fl. Thanks drowland for the gift card! Pours a clear, dark cola red looking near black in the glass. Larger beige head leaves webby lacing. Nose is roasted grain, chocolate, mild coffee, hazelnut. Taste is light, clean, easy to drink schwarzbier like with roast, coffee, hazelnut, some brown sugar. A bit too roasty for altbier, would do well as schwarzbier. Solid, no flaws. drowland (8938) - Georgia, USA - JAN 19, 2013
1/19/2013. 12oz bottle from Grassroots Natural Market. Deep brown pour, plenty of red under the light, under a small khaki head that fades to a ring. Chocolate and maltiness in the aroma with a nice creamy flavor with more chocolate and maltiness. It’s almost like a really smooth brown ale. Tasty!

A rubyred with a crisp off-white head. Aroma is malted-raspberries. The flavor is full bodied and complex. This is probably their best beer. LetsGoState (907) - Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 8, 2012
Aroma is a sweet malt. Taste is very sweet. Overall a little too sweet for me. dwr1962 (47) - Wellsburg, West Virginia, USA - JUL 14, 2012
This one has a malty balance- not hoppy like some. It resembles a nutty dark beer- full bodied for an alt. It’s one of Erie’s best. PGHbeer77 (571) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 21, 2012
12 oz. Bottle. Decent altbier. Lots of bang for your buck. Dark malt scent with hints of licorice. Dark brown/black pour with zero head or lacing (my low point for this one). Light/med bodied, silky texture. Coffee malt taste that tasty and solid, but pretty one dimensional. JawVer (39) - - JUN 15, 2012
12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black. Stout-like in appearance but flavor is lacking. Will not try again
