COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

neongolden (1852) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 23, 2017
(330ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours black with a medium brown head that piles up but rapidly drops to a ring without lace. Aroma of chocolate, a fair amount of dark fruit, a little molasses, lots of oak, moderate vanilla, spirit heat, touches of obvious bourbon, moderate roast. Flavour is smooth, lots of dark fruit, cocoa powder, molasses, dark caramel, vanilla, oak, leather, spirit heat, slightly nutty roast, lightly bitter but hot on the finish, with a touch of minerality. Mouthfeel is a bit light for style and the carb rather high, fizzy and cleansing. Feels more on the English side of things despite the bourbon BA. It's nice but it's a bit too thin (maybe over-attenuated?) and boozy to hit the top tier.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Pitch black with coarse beige head. Concentrated aroma of tobacco, vanilla and black pepper. Surprisingly dry with full body and dense rounded mouthfeel. Dark chocolate, marzipan and vanilla, notes of port. Peppery finish with port and milk chocolate. The relative dryness gives it drinkability, but also propells peppery alcohol. Luxurious and elegant.

Fina chokladtoner i eftersmaken.

½ a finger, tan head.
Absolutely pitch black beer, none of the weak see-through shit.
Aroma is powerful with notes of dark chocolate, bourbon, coffee, fudge and faint citric hops.
Taste is roasted coffee, caramel, nuts, yeast, bourbon and dark chocolate. A small hint of some funky/graininess at the very back.
Thick but really smooth and at 13%, that’s impressive. It has a certain kick initially but it isn’t as powerful as I would’ve hoped for it to be. Medium bitterness.
Overall: Do not underestimate this beer. Delicious and pretty easily drinkable, with only small alcoholic notes for the ABV and that’s from the bourbon.
A bit less of that yeasty/marzipan taste and more of the kick along with some more bitterness and this would be even better.
Congratulations on 10 years Eskilstuna, keep delivering beer in this class!

Turtles (3001) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - APR 22, 2017
330ml bottle from Systembolaget. Pitch black, small short-lasting brown head, some lacing. Bourbon aroma with a lot of alcohol, chocolate, vanilla and licorice. Full-bodied, viscous and warming mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Bourbon taste with alcohol burn, roasted barley, chocolate, vanillaj and oak barrels. Dry and woody finish, with cocoa bitterness and a long warming sensation.

OminouSC2 (919) - Mora, SWEDEN - APR 18, 2017
Pitch black color, small, dark brown head. Aromas of chocolate, arrack, bourbon, vanilla, cacao powder and caramel sauce with slight coffee and roasted malt. Taste of molasses, bourbon, arrack, roasted malt, alcohol, wood, vanilla and chocolate punch candy. Finish is a bit unbalanced and the alcohol is very present throughout the taste profile.

Bottle at Linköping Beer Expo 2017. Black with a small tan head. Pleasant aroma of bourbon, dried fruit, dark chocolate and oak. Similar taste. Nicely balanced and with a long aftertaste. The best one to date from Eskilstuna Ölkultur.
