A dark beer, light and sweet and full bodied, highly fermented, very malty aroma. The slight Hpfennote rounds out the flavor and gives this drink a monastery special character. A beer in the good old custom of the monastery.

Black-red colored with little brown head. Roasted, bit chocolaty aroma with some dark fruits and thin licorice. Thin to medium bodied, carbonated palate. Flavor is more roasted with nice hopped grassy note, aftertaste dries with hops, some caramelly-chocolaty note here as well.

JStax (6462) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - APR 3, 2017
Draft pour. The beer is a clear brown color with a big head of beige foam. The aroma is dry and toasty. Some toffee and nutty notes. Mild roast in the finish. Medium body and medium carbonation.

massingasetta (744) - München, GERMANY - MAR 19, 2017
A decent Dunkel from Ettaler. Tastes vey natural and is highly drinkable. Not as refined from the bitterness as most Dunkel, but certainly a refreshing beer.

fdomig (1000) - München, GERMANY - MAR 13, 2017
500ml bottle at home, Munich. Aroma is malt, light coffee, light bread. Appearance is dark brown with a thick brown foam. Taste is light sweet and light bitter. A soft carbonation, nice balanced. Great dunkles.

Garrold (5265) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2016
Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear, dark copper colour. Bubbly, blotchy, pale grey head. Nose has fruit and nut chocolate. Cracknel toffee. Some toasty malts. Some caramel sauce. Some woody hop. Taste is light, brown sugar sweet, with a vinous bitter edge. Soft and foamy mouthfeel. Good body. Bittersweet finish that has a little dryness on the close. Very nice.

biir (1356) - Berlin, - DEC 24, 2016
Bottle from the cloister - Slightly transparent brown color with huge head. Taste is medium caramel, dark malts, dried fruits. Medium sweet. Finishes slightly bitter. Good.

CanCrusher (1073) - Ilirska Bistrica, SLOVENIA - NOV 20, 2016
Bottle 0,50L. Clear amber color with average big, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and milk chocolate. Taste starts light sweet and turns to medium sweet at the finish. There are notes of caramel and milk chocolate in taste, too. Light to medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Too sweet for my taste and too weak on the body.

solidfunk (8941) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - OCT 8, 2016
Light smoke and some caramel. A hint of chocolate and nut. Dark brown pour with decent head and lacing. Bittersweet finish. Bottle.

NikkTwist (3218) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 12, 2016
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2016 Draft at Brauhaus Schmitz. Mostly clear deep chestnut amber pour with some soft beige foam. Brown bready caramel malts. Raisins. Dates. Apple peels. Toffee. Red beets. Hazelnuts. Spicy dry hops balance out the dark sugars in the finish. Works.

jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - APR 28, 2016
