Low excitement style but clearly from the house of Rogue. Sweet herbal flavours early before hoppy bitterness kicks in. A bit simple and plain compared to most of Rogue beers.

Sample at Rogue Ales Public House. This beer is a clear orange color with a medium white head that dissipates to an outer ring. Large patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, caramel and malt. Medium body with flavors of floral hops, pine and caramel malt. The finish is moderately hoppy with an earthy malt note and lingering bitter aftertaste. Above average overall.

UPDATED: APR 23, 2011 From Chevy Chase WIne and Liqours. This pale ale has a nice, golden/orange haze. Taste is mildly hoppy, with some aftertaste. Not a bad beer but not something Im going out of my way to have again.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Chevy Chase, 2/5/10

Aroma: The nose has lots of grapefruit and orange hops with some caramel malts
Appearance: Pours a very cloudy dark orange color with a fluffy white head, some lace, and sediment
Flavor: Taste is medium sweet, citrus fruits, and light-medium bitter, flavor has a dry finish
Palate: The body is medium, and it has a somewhat creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression: My first Eugene City rating. This one makes for a pretty decent APA overall, but there is something just a drop off in the flavor. Anyway, there is a nice citrus hop feel to it, but this beer is missing something.

Draught at The Local Taphouse, Sydney. Appears dark golden with lasting white head. A significant hoppy aroma and flavour of pine, apricots, citrus and malt. Extremely bitter on the palate and those high AA hops detract from the overall appeal of the beer (which is strange as Id normally be embracing the glass with all those hops!) Sweet and bitter finish. Not bad but would of enjoyed a more flavourful APA. Good to try though.

Pours nicely with a hazy, coppery, orange color with a moderately full, foamy, white, rocky head which is mostly lasting and leaves some drippy lace rings. Nose is fairly bland but pleasant with typical Rogue yeast notes; notes of honeyed breads, light grains, apricot/tangerine citrus hops, and subtle grass and resins. Flavor is fairly similar with orange/tangerine citrus, subtle grass and resins, a moderate bitterness, honeyed breads in the background, and very light grain notes. Palate is actually pretty nice for an APA with a lively carbonation, a moderate body, a creamy/velvety mouthfeel. Finishes is a bit unpleasant with light honeyed breads, some orange, and an aspirin-like bitterness on the tail end. Some nice flavors in this one but falls short with some blandness and an offputting finish. Drinkable and very Rogue-like, with the Pac-man yeast notes, but only okay for me.

My first time to try a beer from this brewery and it was impressive. Lovely ctrius hop character followed by rich malt and hop flavoured palate. We dont see these kind of beers in Australia very much, the APA stylebeers here always appear thinner and less hoppy than their US cousins. Very nice beer, wish I had more of it.
