500 ml. bottle @ home. Great label. BBF 17.12.16. Black, brief mocha bubbles. Nose is thick licorice, bark, thick lager syrupy, seems thicker than ABV, low Christmas pudding. Body is lightly watery. Interesting herbal bitter, bark, syrupy, blueberry, lightly watery syrupy, soft carbonation, low charcoal, blueberry syrupy, low herbal, faint too low for me Sorachi Ace in the back (very interesting). Really interesting & rich flavor profile, too bad about little carbonation & touch watery body. Still quite tasty.

Zwickel pour at Gänstaller Bräu. Deep brown with a permanent tan head. Intense black lager is malty in the way of roast, milk chocolate, char, ink; hoppy in the way of licorice and spice and herbs and citrus rind, strongly bitter with relatively low sweetness on a rich and savory malt texture, with perfectly fine carbonation. It was just a little young at the moment, with some sharpness to the body, but the core is sound and the effects work.

Heeft iets weg van een droge ierse stout? Licht broodje.. licht gebrand.. wat kruidig? Ok

50cl bottle shared at home. Pitch black with a medium off-white head. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Nice bitterness with subtle sweet tones. Roasted malts, hops, coffee and spices. Nice!

[9/27/15] Draught at Hoppy Days in Amsterdam. Black with a tan head. Aroma of licorice, dark fruits. Sweet flavor with licorice, dark fruits, caramel, roast, a bit of anise, and a bitter finish. Medium to full-bodied. Kinda OK, but too licorice-y for my liking.

Poured a dark cola with a frothy off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, dark fruit and light liquorice. Light body, flavour as the aroma, fairly standard example of the style.

On tap at Hoppy Days. Dark brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, veggies, liquorice, some hops, roasted malts, nuts. Flavour is medium sweet, liquorice, dark fruits, hops, roast, bitter finish, leaves. Light to medium bodied. Not sure if it’s brewed at Gänstaller. Different.

On tap at Hoppy Days. Almost clear, dark brownish red with a medium large, fluffy, tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of dark chocolate, raspberries and nuts. Sweetish, fruity-malty taste of dark chocolate, cherries, raisins and some coffee, followed by a relatively bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Okay.
