(Bottle, 0.5 l, at Oluttupa Viisi Penniä, 20120421) The beer poured almost black and clear. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had roasted malts, hops and chocolate. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, ash, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. The taste was disappointmen - way too much burnt malts. sayravai (4711) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 12, 2012
(Bottled) Almost black with a medium, firm and beige head. Aroma is both fruity-hoppy, and roasted, lightly licoricey and dried-fruity. Flavor is burned-malty and ashy, with moderate licorice presence. Quite bitter, long finish. Medium body, ashy-burned palate with quite soft CO2. Promising aroma, but way too burned flavor for enjoyment. 3645 Ungstrup (38415) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - APR 8, 2012
Bottled. A black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, chocolate, roasted malt, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of rosted malt, chocolate, hops, and lemons, leading to a bitter finish. anders37 (27062) - Malmö, SWEDEN - APR 5, 2012
Bottle. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a slightly roasted malty hoppy piney licorice aroma. Slightly roasted malty hårdhänt bitter piney hoppy flavor with hints of licorice. Has a roasted malty hoppy bitter piney finish. Papsoe (25056) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 2, 2012
Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of chrisv10. Pours an opaque deep dark coffeeish brown with an beige head. The nose has lovely citrusy aroma hops. Medium body, subtle roast, great juicy aroma hops. But as with the pale version this is simply too dry for me and appears unbalanced. I prefer my IPA’s with a little more residual sweetness - this is simply too dry. 020412

Black with beige head.
Hoppy with coffe, roast and more hops.
Really well made Black IPA.
Wonderfull. YanniVampiro (9) - Leonforte, ITALY - MAR 31, 2012 does not count
Inferior to its Golden counterpart, this Cascadian ale suffers on some lack of balance between the toastiness of malts and the hopping; making of it more of an hopped stout than a Black IPA. Russian Roulette Black IPA lacks a bit of personality, I think the brewers might have dared more. yespr (47567) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - MAR 31, 2012
