Subtle, sensuous aroma - first noticably Belgian with a tangy/yeasty fruitiness, then the understated smoke comes through. Inky, decent tan head, good faux-painted bottle. Acidic, tangy and creosotic. Slippery mouthfeel, medium body, pitchy finish. This is more like an awkward juggling act rather than a cohesive performance. Meh. Market Square Liquors, TImberlane. Bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Fairly vigorous dark brown pour, a rocky head settling down to reveal some beige dustiness to the beer, which seems to evoke its ingedients somehow. Dry straw notes and yeast in the nose, along with subdued smoke. Lively mouthfeel, not quite as full as desired in places. Flavors are earthy for the most part, but there are some prominent chocolate notes that meld fairly nicely with the smoky and grainy dimensions. Pretty good. bpreo (2840) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - APR 11, 2013
The Perfect Crime is the perfect beer. Nothing wrong with this one at all. Find it now, while it lasts! altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - APR 10, 2013
Bottle from New Seasons - Division. Nice black body with puffy tan head. Nose is yeasty, malty. Taste is dark fruits, caramel, roasty malts, some notes of smoked ham in the finish. Pretty good. AndyReynolds (1085) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 8, 2013
That is an odd aroma. Soured bread, smoked malts, toasted caramel, and cheese (?). Taste brings the smokiness out fo sho. Lighter palate, finishing dry.

Slightly pooey aroma, a bit dodgy. Nice black, small beige head. Nicer taste there’s some pleasant bacon in the roast. Still a bit messy. Finish is quite thin and short. Some nice roast aspects, but still a bit messy generally.
Bottle via beer world. Lovely sienna brown int he glass with athin head that settles to spotty foam momentarily. Intricate droopy lacing hangs about awhile. Nose of wet wood and yeast. If two gypsies team up with anyone there is bound to be a dog involved in the transaction. As fate would have it there was a dog in the beer store when I bought this. Smoky slate chalk body with a strong undertone of spices mixed with tangy yeast. Edge translucent otherwise dark as night. chalk finish. Pours a deep black with a nose of roasted pecans and singed hop petals. Flavor is slightly smoked hop nuts and a touch of banana charcoal in the finish. Decent mouthfeel. Not bad.
12oz bottle. Poured a dark cola brown, almost black color with a large tan head. Aroam was a touch of hop, smoked notes, along with notes of roasted malts. Flavor was sweet roasted malts, Belgian yeast notes, with a touch of smoked notes. Pretty good. Gramoit (490) - Surrey, ENGLAND - APR 2, 2013
Pours pitch black with medium sized head. Smells like a standard Saison with some roasted malts. Initially it tasted quite similar to most saisons however further you get into the beer the roasted malts, chocolate and smokey characters become more noticeable. First black saison for me, very interesting indeed.
