COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe its best not to even talk about it.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2015 This was quite yummy. Very subtle smoke appeared more at the back of the sip. Slightly sour but gave a over all winey-ness. Very pleasantly surprised. Serving: bottle

12oz bottle: pours a clear dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Has a lightly sweet dark malty nose with good smoke character and some resiny hops along with a touch of light fruity esters. Starts with good fullness and toasted malty sweetness with some coffee undertones and fresh smoke drying out slightly before a lingering bittersweet finish. Unique and enjoyable.

12oz. bottle from Ryan and Casey Liquors Greenfield, MA. Aroma is light roasted malt and citrus hops. The flavor is really muted. Its reminds me of a weak smoked porter. Where is the Belgian yeast? It does have a light citrus hop in the finish but overall, a bland disappointment. Medium bodied, lower on carbonation. I think some of the hybrids created recently need to die. I havent had a Black Saison that I really liked yet. Dont spend your money on this one.

Bottle. Pours a rich dark brown with white head. Notes of ginger, pine, and toasted malts. Finishes crisp and clean for a dark beer.

Decent brew but not my style as taste is too bitter and mouthfeel is too thin.

Black in color with a soft off-white head. Roasty but light bodied witha bit of smokiness and saison-yeast spice. Light malty, smoked aroma.

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a dark ruby with small frothy off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a bready malt and clove. Thin mouthfeel with a dry malt with strong clove flavor. A decent saison.

Dark, even ruby brown with a cm of tan head. Aroma is slightly burnt caramel with light phenolics. First taste is bitter chocolate with burnt, herby, lemony acridness that punches in as a totally separate note and finishes in slightly smokey sulfur. Meh. $4/12oz

Bottle from Marczyk. Pours a lovely ebony with a dense tan head. Aroma is complex with cheese, smoke, bubblegum, papery hops. The palate is very creamy. The yeast is potent in the flavor, about as intense as it can get without being unpleasant. Strong spiced notes are in the flavor and plenty of bubblegum. The finish calms things down with chocolate and smoke. This is very different and complex. I like it.
