What a nice, smooth saison that really enters with a statement and finishes like a clean baby back competition rib pull- you want another !

Pours opaque black with brown highlights. Slight sour anise on the nose. Starts off with the fruit of a saison, followed by the burnt malt flavor of a black ipa and mild pepper, ending with the aftertaste of black licorice. Interesting mix of styles and flavor maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JAN 17, 2013
Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate light tan head. Nose has a hint of sourness to it with some roasting in there as well. Taste is actually superbly balanced with an intriguing melding of flavors. Great beer. scooter520 (185) - - JAN 17, 2013
Bottle. Appearance: very dark brown with ruby tints and a foamy tan head. Aroma: roasted malts, some yeast funk, some smoke, some lemon and some overripe banana. Taste: bright lemon and some banana and roasted malts up front, some funky yeast and pepper in the middle, ending with a dry smoky flavor. Mouthfeel: fairly thin with medium carbonation. Overall: interesting take on a Saison. I'm not a huge Saison fan, but this adds an extra level of complexity with the smoked and roasted malts.

Pouts a near black body with reddish hued edges. Smells of dulled smoke with some faint funk. Very bread and malt flavor with a nice blend of smoke and spice. Great mouthfeel with the flavor. Interesting take on Saison.

Wow, this is a dark saison. It looks more like a stout, with a solid, black color and a cream-colored head that produces some fabulous lacing. The nose provides some smooth, gentle smoked malts atop a roasty saison yeastiness. The flavor is less desirable but still very nice and not overly roasted to be bunking with the obviously saisonish yeast. It’s bright and spicy in the mouth, full and tasty, and reminiscent of fresh, unmolested oak. The roasted malts seem well-hidden in the finish and offers a very nice, clean, charred, soft, woody impression on the palate and a smoky sweetness in the finish. This is my kind of saison! Pours dark mahogany with a small tan head. Smells both of funk and smoke. Taste is smoky with some funkiness. Light-to-medium bodied with a wet texture and light fizzy mouth-carbonation, Evil Twin/Stillwater/Stone The Perfect Crime Black Smoked Saison finishes with a touch of smoked funk. Bottle from Best Damn Beer Shop: Aroma is subtle with not a lot to smell other than a minor scent of yeast, spice and charred wood log. Appearance was a dark brown that was completely opaque while a foamy head breaks down in short time. Flavor is mild with chances of dark roast malts but I was unable to find any traces of smoke or that it was even a saison for that matter. Boring and bland yet perfectly balanced and an interesting concept of blackening a saison. GMCC2181 (1612) - Newark, Delaware, USA - JAN 14, 2013
Bottle via SL. Light black in color... small head that faded fast. Nose is light toasted malts, slight smoke and some earthy spices. Taste is just mehhh. Light toasted malt, light smoke, spices, earthy. No one flavor standing out. Blended well together but kind of boring to me. Medium to high carbonation. Overall: Nothing to write home about. Kind of expected more with three big names brewing this together jbruner (5002) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JAN 14, 2013
Pours a translucent black from the bottle with foamy off-white head and light lacing as it dissipates. Aroma of roasted malts, faint dark chocolate, dirt, ash, and a slight funky yeast note on the back end. Taste is odd, but complex; starts bitter and ashy, sweet and malty in the middle, then a kind of acetone ester on the back end. Good stuff, just really weird.
