When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe it’s best not to even talk about it.

On tap at Capone’s terrific (and crowded) day after Thanksgiving event. Who decided that day has to be called Black Friday? I’m not calling it that. Anyway, this was a really interesting brew! It is a little confusing because there is a brewery called Perfect Crime, but they apparently were not involved in committing this particular legal violation. But there is no infringement here concerning the statutes of good taste! This perfect crime was amazingly well-balanced, yet it seems like a blend. Smoky, sweet, a touch sour, seems like it could have a little peat in it too. It is not like anything else I can think of. Is it an old ale? A new ale? RB calls it a saison - whatever, I call it excellent.

Bottle. Black, scant beige gead. Aroma of chicolatey coffee grounds. Taste is oily Italian coffee soda. Tasty.

Was kind of hoping for a little more from this one. Nice dark mahogany pour with a small mocha head that left some lacing. Nose of roasted malt, charred wood, yeast, and a touch of candied citrus. Just not as interesting as the combination of aromas would indicate. Everything is there but subtle, subdued, muddled. Wanted more burnt oak, more grapefruit pith and orange peel, more spice. Very drinkable but not entirely memorable.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours almost black with a small head. The nose is almost black IPA like with slight burnt notes but a lighter hop presence. It’s soft on the tongue with an interesting mix of floral, burnt malt, grass, and slight yeast notes. Light body with higher carbonation. Interesting brew.

Dark black in color, with a tan head. Light malt and Belgian yeast aroma. I was hoping for more smoke and more hops. Easy drinking and nice brew overall.

ADfan (870) - Orange County, California, USA - DEC 25, 2012
Very dark in the glass with a small head. The nose has dark fruits like plums and cherries with a touch of smoke. The taste has smoke up front then there is some roasted malts. A touch of roasted fruits on the end. Taste falls off pretty quick.

TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - DEC 25, 2012
Bottle. Pours black with a small fizzy tan head . Nose is roasted malt, light spice, grass, and earth. Flavor shows more of the smoke, notes of cocoa, coffee, and a grassy bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little thin and for the brewers involved, this is slightly underwhelming.

Completely unique beer in my experience. Has the dry grassiness of a saison as well as smoke and roast. Body is much lighter than you would expect from those flavors. Dry finish.

Pours dark brown, almost black with a light tan head that quickly fades to lacing. Aroma of pine resin. Tastes of resin, smokey wood, coffee, and clove. Medium light body.
