Pours out almost black with a big tan head. Aroma is of smoked malts, light dark dried fruits, some yeasty/earthy Saison notes, roast and a decent amount of hop bitterness coming through. Taste is much like the aroma; lots going on. Complex smoked malts, chocolate, light roast, dried dark fruits, light pepper, some earth, yeast and a solid punch of hop bitterness throughout that becomes more apparent in the finish. Well done! Tap at Capones. Pours a dark dark brown with very thin head and no lacing. Aromas and taste were hard to decipher, just alot of thin and bland roast and maybe a touch of hops. Medium to fuller bodied saison. Jesterdeal (1985) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - NOV 23, 2012
Aroma of dry floral, slight coffee and perfumey grape. Pours black with a small sudsy head. Taste is a neat mix of floral bread and a nice smokey aftertaste. Very neat combination of tastes. Almost tastes like a black belgian ipa (a la Iron Hill Ironfish). alobar (3782) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 23, 2012

From memory: bottle. Pours nearly black, though not opaque. First whiff, smells simply of classic Belgium yeast. Clean and focused. Palate is also clean, round and smooth. Classic saison flavors, though made in a very crowd-friendly manner. Not to bitter, not to sour, and not to funky... I was hard-pressed to find much smoke in this beer.. Maybe a hint of ash.. Which wasn't disappointing, as I was enjoying the beer just as it was... I would simply consider this a "Black Saison", as the smoke is not prominent. A good beer.

Pours black with a fluffy off-tan head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, cocoa, spicy, earthy, some funk (brett?), pine, brown sugar. Taste is interesting and somewhat complex with that signature Stone bitterness. Crisp and refreshing with some fruity notes at the start, quickly becomes grassy and herbal with bitterness and some acidity, rounds off with something I can’t quite place (caramel or toffee?) and a bitter finish of lemon peel with a touch of cocoa. Some nice lacing. Medium carbonation. Nice full mouth feel. Overall, different but not bad. I would drink more of these, absolutely. dalekliz (922) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 21, 2012
Bottle. Pours a deep black with an off-white head that lingers and leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma of burnt, toasted malt, wood, grass, chocolate. Taste has a lot going on, dry toasted malt, wood, spices and finishes with sweeter tart fruits and hops. Lingering crisp toasted malt and underripe fruits that ends a bit watery. Kind of weird but it works pretty well. IrishBoy (4199) - Bakersfield, California, USA - NOV 21, 2012
12 oz bottle from BevMo Valencia. Nose is lightly farmhouse funk, light amounts of chocolate, and a little smoke. Clear very dark brown with a medium, heavy lacing, tan head. Flavor is lightly tart and funky with some light bitterness. skmikeg (1826) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 20, 2012
Pours pitch black a small tan head which does not last long. Aroma is of smoke, roasted malts, wet hay funk, some bakers coco, some wood, and Belgian spices. Taste is smoked wood, roasted malts, citrus, some floral hops, some coco, faint espresso, and some saison spices. Has medium body with a slighty creamy, well carbonated mouthfeel and a dry, semi bitter, slightly funky, smokey finish. overall, a interesting and pretty tasty hybrid of a rachbier and saison.
